EVERY BOARD MEMBER READ THIS POST ABOUT BOB HUGHES

Post by billgiff » Fri Jan 12, 2007 10:44 am

TO ALL BOARD MEMBERS. IT LOOKS LIKE OUR HARD WORK INVOLVING "BOB HUGHES" WILL PAY OFF. I JUST RECEIVED THIS EMAIL FROM SGT. TAYLOR of THE RICHMOND POLICE DEPARTMENT. IF YOU HAVEN"T STEPPED FORWARD YET, PLEASE DO IT NOW!!!!!!!

Bill,

Prepping to do the forensics on his computer. Will take several weeks.
However, in the search warrant, we did seize several hundred 1:18 scale
figurines if I recall correctly, several vehicles and airplanes, all 1:18th
scale, in addition to his computer. I filed the search warrant return this
morning, so all is now "Public Knowledge". Again, I'd urge anyone who has
been taken by "Bob" or anyone who has been scammed by someone in the
Richmond area to contact me at the number below. If you could let the gents
on the warbird forum know, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Sorry to have taken so long, however, I've got a pretty strong feeling that
we'll get some decent charges out of this.

Chris

Wow! That's pretty cool.

Wanna bet he doesn't tell his fellow boarders in the holding cell that he was arrested for scamming toys? 8)

I will post any other information as it comes in. Hopefully we will get his real name. I'm wondering if "Bob Hughes", "Carol Hughes", "Wayne Cody", "Allan Grant", etc. are all the same guy or is this a ring that will be taken apart. You know damn well that our buddy "Bob" will sing like a canary. How proud must this guy be to have been busted over scamming toys. He is in his mid 40's!!!
IF THERE WAS AN ARREST, I WAS PROMISED AN ARREST PHOTO FROM SGT. TAYLOR. I WILL TAKE HIM UP ON HIS OFFER.

WOW
I hope our Austrailian board member that got scammed sees this!

Congrads to the police and the people that helped them to get this guy taken away!

Let's hope the judge feels the same way Sgt. Taylor does about this case!

Very cool to get some results! Still, I can't help thinking what a looser this guy was. It would be one thing to be scamming electronics, drugs, or something else, but military toys

A few things:

1) I like the picture idea - post a picture of the guy in a sticky with a short bio of who this guy is. Make sure to include his aliases.

2) Not sure if he'll actually welcome this as he might get flooded with e-mails but my first thought was to send the sgt a short thank-you for his help. Nothing more than that as he'll again get flooded with e-mails that might eventually piss him off. Perhaps a sticky or some other thread on this forum where he (and others who have helped him) can go and read how much we appreciate his work.

3) Post links to where we might find more information on this.

4) I know that sometimes forums like to keep their info and the like to themselves. Proprietary might be the best way to describe it. I've seen this mostly in the model aircraft forums and (to a much smaller extent) in the 1:6 world. As for 1:18th world, I'm relatively new and so I don't even know of any other 1:18 forums however it wouldn't hurt, in this case anyway, to offer this info up to others. Perhaps with the agreement that it was here that the search began for this a-hole and was due to the diligence of one of it's (our) members.

Just a thought.

To all: This ordeal is not over yet. There is still some legalities that have to be done. I've been in contact with Sgt Chris Taylor since C2000 gave me the contact information. I personally thanked him in an email this morning stating that "The whole 1/18 Board" thanks you greatly. We will find out more info in the weeks coming. Contacting other scale boards is a great idea because if I remember correctly, someone was scamming them too. If anybody can contact a moderator over there, then do so. This was the last email sent from Sgt. Taylor:

Bill,

Also, haven't forgot about the arrest picture. If and when there is a
warrant or we arrest him, I'll send you that picture for the forum.

I'll be in touch in a few weeks.

Chris

Thanks Razor, its all yours.

I for one am just glad this guy has been put out by the whole thing. Even if he doesn’t get arrested it’s sure to be very embarrassing for him. Maybe he will think twice about messing with a bunch of pissed off military toy collectors in the future. Good job to all of those who pushed the subject with this guy.

In my last post I mentioned sending a message to the seargent saying thanks. Ditto to you to Bill. Thanks for all of your help. If this guy gets put away it's because of your hard work as well.

Thanks again Bill.

I just received another email from Sgt. Taylor. I'm waiting for a go ahead (from him) to post it. You guys will definatley like it. I did my part to bring "Bob" down but what motivated me was Cruizin 2000 going out of his way to contact the Richmond Police. C2000 didn't get ripped off by "Bob" but cared enough to help those who did. It's people like him that makes this board so special. I figures if C2000 cared enough to start this inquiry, I should care enough to see it through. "Bob" personally screwed me out of some custom 1/18 figures and carded ones. I hope he is scared and a little nervous who his cell mates are going to be. :D

The mere fact that the police even came knocking on his door must shaken up the smug bastard considerably. Nice work, keep us posted. 8)

Excellent work, my thanks to all who took their time and effort in this. I'm eager to hear further developments and results. I still haven't understood what he could gain by scamming toys, though. Art, jewelry, coins, etc - but toys?

I just e-mailed Sgt. Taylor - I was scammed by a "Francis Sutton Jr." from Richmond, IN a little over a year ago. We'll see if I can provide anything of substance to aid in the prosecution - though I can't imagine I have anything more than what has already been provided. Hopefully if nothing else it adds just a little more weight to the case.

Whatever the outcome of all this, a huge thanks to all who have aided in the process! I only got scammed for maybe $25 worth of product, but I'm sure the collective total is quite a lot for all of us.

I feel bad for all the folks that lost out to this thief but I also pity him. I almost feel sorry for a person to be driven to this extreme to steal. There has to be some short of mental disorder and if that is the case then I hope he gets help. I also hope that every one that got ripped off by him gets compensation for their losses, also I bet that if he stole toys then he might have ripped others off as well. It might be interesting to contact E-bay to find out what kind of reputation he had if he was ever on there.
