AO Recon Thread

Post by WGP Klaus » Fri Jan 28, 2005 6:41 am

To get a stickied "AO Recon Thread"? If so, I'd greatly appreciate it as I rely on the recon threads in the 18th forum quite alot, and with all the items that seem to be hitting, it would save many of us quite a bit of time behind the wheel! :-)

If this is granted, lets hear from those of you out there regarding sightings/findings from TRU/Walmart/Etc.

Something along these lines:
AO - (ie: West Coast, Midwest, Northeastern US etc)
Store Location (City/State) -
Items on shelves -
Price(s) -

Thanks in advance.

I'm glad to see you starting into the collecting. It isn't all that expenseive, given some collections. I like both, both have their good and bad parts. If you are into collecting toys, 21st is the better on the two. If you are into modeling, the FOV is the better. I have found the the 21st is 1/2 the cost of the FOV. I have to glue the small parts into the tank, otherwise they will get lost. In my colliction, I get one or two FOV of each, and I like to get 4 each of the 21st. Not all the time, there are some 21st that I only want one each.

I think, over time, you'll know your likes and dislikes, so it sould bet easier. Have fun, thats the idea, right? :D

The Camden WM here in Dover, DE had all 3 aircraft as well. They look pretty sharp, but I am officially out of 1:32. It just doesn't do anything for me anymore. Sad but true. I'm sticking with the big boys.......

Fresn, CA Walmart and TRU sightings

Post by tmanthegreat » Sat Feb 19, 2005 5:32 pm

TRU on west Shaw ave had 3 FOV Paladins, 1 cammo Sherman and 1 winter M-16 gun carriage.

The Wal Mart at Kings Canyon & Peach had 2 each of the new 32x planes, plus an excellent selection of the 32x Model kits, and also some of the 1:48 21c products including the Hummer and the AH-6 Littlebird.

All that's here in Central Texas are the three 32x planes found at two stores, Howard Lane, and Georgetown. TRU has nothing 32 scale and it appears they may not restock anytime soon.

Most WM's in my neck of the woods (No Va and Md) seem to have the new 32xw aircraft now, nice pieces by the way. Still have yet to find any of the 32x Cold Steel M113's in my AO, but keeping my fingers crossed.

TRU's in my AO (again..Md and No. Va.) seem to have restocked the first assortment of FOV repaints, but oddly enough nothing "new", just the M16, Sherman and I don't recall the third. Several of the stores finally got in the new figure sets, picked up those this past weekend...anxiously awaiting the arrival of the Paladin/LAV/Amtrac

Did a recon tonight at the Camden WM and found to my amazement the 88, Jagdpanther and M113 in addition to the aircraft. Not bad on the distro front!!

TRU's in my AO (Maryland) seemed to have finally received the FOV LAV's as I found them at 3 different stores(Rockville/Gaithersburg/Wheaton) this afternoon. Very much hoping the Amtracks and Paladins showup soon.

The Fresno Wal Mart on Peach & Kings Canyon had one each of the Cold Steel M-113, 88mm Flak Gun, and the Jagdpanther. The Wal Mart on West Shaw had the same selection. That Jagdpanther looks very nice and I almost walked out with it...

Hover, if you're looking for the LAV...most of the TRU's I've visited in Md (Rockville/Wheaton/Gaith) all had some sitting on the shelves, along with the Hammerhead, which I was actually fortunate enough to find 4 right before Christmas. Still hoping to see the Amtrack and Paladin. A good way I've found to see when they start hitting the shelves, is to keep an eye on evilbay, and when you start seeing 6-7 different sellers, who all pretty much copy and past the exact same header/description, and list the item as "HTF" or "RARE"...you know it's widely available..lol That held true last week when I noticed a boatload of LAV's available on Ebay all of the sudden (with absurd Buy it now prices mind you) and I chanced it, and hit a local TRU, and found 4 on the shelf, and just for Sh!ts and grins, I checked the other stores, and sure enough..all had LAV's sitting on the shelves.

On a similiar not (hover) if you're into kit form modeling, Hobby Works is having their annual sale, where they have an entire aisle with sale merchandise and they increase the discount by 10% every week till they hit a certain percentage, and this week they're up to 30% off. They've got some Can-do, some Dragon Wings (no armor as of yet) and had some Corgi stuff as well and a ton of FOV (older stuff). Also, theres going to be a model show (tons of vendors as well) next Saturday, April 9th at Fairfax HS. Last year I picked up some Armour diecast and some Dragon diecast at great prices, so if you're free in the AM, you should go check it out.

Thanks Klaus. NoVa seems to lag behind MD for this stuff. It's been hard try to stay off eBay for it, but I really don't want to pay 3 times retail for FoV. I'm not into kits. Just keeping up with diecast is hard enough.

playsets at wal-mart

Post by kimtheredxd » Thu Apr 07, 2005 10:22 pm

I found a couple of the play sets at my local Wal-mart(bremerton WA) today $16.96 a piece "chance encounter" with the stug tank (its all plastic no cold hard steel here)and the other one was the one with the pak A.T gun in it.Real nice boxs with flip open lids so you can see whats inside with a plastic cover *window* I didnt realize there was more than the two sets some one else was there looking at the time so I just grabbed the two front facing of one each of the playsets and the panzer .So it is a possibility there is the other sets there also I guess.

Only AFTER I go back to school does Wal Mart start getting interesting stuff again!! Its really not that annoying this time as I have the 32x playsets you're talking about already. The PAK-40 and Stug IV are really nice pieces and I like the column ruin that came with the PAK-40 set.
