1:18 Panzer I project - Shipped!

Post by grunt1 » Thu Mar 05, 2020 4:33 pm

I made a Panzer I for myself several years ago. I recently decided to re-make the kit. My in-house equipment has evolved quite a bit since then. Those of you who have purchased recently items can attest. This offer is only valid for SSMHQ members.

Here is the original version:
Image

The TLDR is that I'm doing a proper Panzer I Ausf A (thank you Slade) for myself and I will make up to 5 more as kits..

The cost for the kit is $200 plus shipping for the first 5. After that it's $250, because this process and equipment is _expensive_.

PM me if you are interested.

The kits will be shipped in April.

I have to unfortunately say that is not the actual Ausführung you are looking to make here, as it is not an F. I happen to be building the Hobby Boss kit right now and this is what it looks like:
Image

https://firearmcentral.fandom.com/wiki/ ... _I_Ausf._F

Now, without interlaced wheels yours cannot be a C either so that keeps it to an A or B, and 4 road wheels makes it an A.

Image

An Ausf. F though would be awesome; it was a neat-looking tank. They only built 30 but that is more than some of the other tanks everyone loves like the Maus and some at least saw active service in the East.

Grunt1,

Very cool on the Panzer I kit! I sent you an email about placing an order for this last night. I’m definitely interested. Ive got an excellent model of one in 1/30 scale and we need more early war/Blitzkrieg era tanks in 1/18 8)

Well that's what I get for not Googl'ing before Ausf'ing. :-) Thanks Slade. It's the A as pictured that I am starting with.

And yes Tman, thank you. I got your note and will respond with the information this weekend.

Order placed! I swore I wasn't buying any more 1:18 models until I built a few more of my backlog. I still have one of your Kets, a 222, Tiger II and Nathan's Komet to build, not to mention all my customs and repairs I have sitting around. I just couldn't pass up the good deal. Thanks!

I placed my order as well and have a similar backlog: Jagdpanzer IV in progress, Bachem Natter, Nathan’s Komet, and a few smaller 1/18 pieces... Don’t even get me started on my 1/32 kits waiting!

GEEEEZZ.... I do the same thing! I swore I wasn't going to buy any more kits, period as I too have mods and projects partially complete all over the place!

Doesn't take much to get distracted to the next colorful bauble that catches the eye. Especially if it's a good deal. I was doing real well back last fall and into the winter but I found myself slipping back into old habits. I might need therapy. :P

Good question YT. Production is on track and I have everything I need to finish the kits. Unless something comes up or the government needs to implement a priority only shipping mandate we should be good.

Short update: I'm still fiddling with the main body and how various parts will attach. I'll have some photos of test shots to share this weekend. Mainly running gear, tracks, etc.

The running gear turned out great. This Panzer I kit is designed to be an easy build. There are square sockets on the back of the running gear pieces that snap and hold (with CA glue) into the square sockets of the tub. Takes about 2 minutes per side.

I missed the April deadline which is frustrating. I am getting a better sense of how this little lady will come together. Here is a preview of one of the pages from the assembly instructions to give you a sense.
Note that many of the small details and parts have been removed to make the visual more clear.

Thank you NSA. It's a challenging project but it's looking good so far.

Josef, the majority of the parts are plastic. The main body will either be plastic or a plastic/carbon fiber blend. I'm testing options now to try to balance the right mix of durability, detail and cost.

Oh and ignore the first photo posted with the brass metal tubes as guns. That was a personal one of a kind build I made a long time ago with very basic equipment. For a better idea of what this Panzer I will look like, check out tman's build of the M3 anti-tank gun here:

A short update: I hit a few major stumbling blocks on some of my larger projects like the Panzer I and the Flak 38 that slowed me down. The good news is that the Flak 38 is done and will be released next week so I can now focus my time on finishing up the Panzer I.

These took me a while to get right but I am very happy with the new working snap tracks for the Panzer I. Now that this is out of the way, on to the final version of the hull.

Photos didn't do them justice so here is a video:
