I remember seeing this figure offered by various Chinese dealers over the years (with the right 21ct Toys flesh tones and colored uniforms etc.) but always doubted their authenticity---the head is too big for the body and it just seems a little off...this "prototype" looks even more dubious...
or am I just being too skeptical?

The head issue is likely the photo. If you do a close-up with wide angle setting it can distort the subject. The second photo he's lying flat and the head isn't closest to the lens and thus doesn't look too big. It's better to back off a bit and add a touch of zoom.

A whole bunch of alleged BBI protoypes have suddenly turned up...go to ebay and search Elite Force 1 18 prototypes and over ten listings pop up, some reasonably priced, some not so much...how they arrived on the scene is one of Life's Little Mysteries...

China has all the molds from these companies, and it would not be a stretch for them to pirate them, and sell so called proto types I would imagine.

Agreed. I got a bunch of that remade stuff cheap a few years ago. All they did was swap the head sculpt from another figure in the series and offered it in lots of 5 for $15 I think. Reproduced prototype versions would be so easy over there. You would have to basically have to buy it to make sure and even then it may prove difficult. I like what I got though. If you like it, go for it. If you are particular, beware.

It's just pennies cheap for them to pop out new models from old molds....to key up and run multi colors and paint apps would drive up the cost. These 'prototypes' were just made.
