21st Century 1/32 P-51 & Malcolm hood.

Post by dragon53 » Thu Feb 14, 2019 5:18 pm

21st Century released two versions of the 1/32 P-51 Mustang "Bald Eagle"---one with a Malcolm hood and one without. I have seen photos of the "Bald Eagle" without the Malcolm but no photos with the Malcolm.

So my question is: does the P-51 "Bald Eagle" with the Malcolm hood really exist?

Dragon, I only ever saw the 32x P-51B “Bald Eagle” with the framed canopy, which is accurate for the actual plane. I don’t know if 21st made a 1/48 scale version as that would have (inaccurately) had the Malcolm Hood, but there could have been... There were three 21st 32x P-51B/Cs that came with the Malcolm Hood as a standard piece, including Berlin Express, Cripes a Mighty, and the RAF Polish Squadron aircraft.

TMANTHEGREAT:

I found this forum where someone else asked the same question about Bald Eagle with the Malcolm hood. They think it did have a Malcolm later on.

Interesting! I can definitely see it in the picture... I know the Malcolm Hood was a field modification so perhaps Bald Eagle started with the framed canopy and later got the Malcolm Hood installed.
