Hey Pickel, what're the final dimensions on the Hind (without top rotor), length/height/width (with both winglets/weapon mounts)? Working up a display case for some of my 1/18th stuff and this'll be the biggest piece.

I have it broke down right now and one of the pieces are in a mold so give me a couple of days.

Hey Guys ,

Here is a little update on the Hind.

I have sent all of the final small parts to Daremo ( all 109 ) of them.

That meens that he will have to make 3,488 parts !!!

I have all of the big parts , probably 50 parts .

I will be using aprx 12 gallons of RTV and making over 1,600 parts.

During the 2-1/2 years of working on the prototype I took on some extra work .

Some of those guys are turning up the heat just a little .

Some of that work were contact sales on e-bay.

I do not like to tell anyone no , so I took that work on.

So , while Daremo is working on his 3,000 plus parts I need to get caught up on those outstanding projects .

I am thinking of about 2 weeks

I know this sucks for you Hind guys but I have pressure coming from all directions and if I get these projects done I can devote 100% on the Hind and it should be smooth saling from then on.

Thanks to Daremo this project will continue un-interrupted .

Pickel, I've got to say your Hind project is simply fantastic! The work you've done.... outstanding!
Its been years in the making and it shows. Correcting minor details to make it just right....well, that's You.
Matthew, thanks for helping this scale continue on.

Finally after a month , progress.

I just used 10 gallons of RTV ( I ran out ) and all of the molds for the big pieces are made !!

I am hoping that 4 more gallons of RTV will be enough.

The molds for the main fuselage are huge !!

They are about 2 feet long and about 1 foot wide and I have them shaped like a coffin.

The new RTV will be in about Thursday in the meantime I will start casting pieces.

It is not nessisary but I will be putting tint in the resin to make the pieces parts gray .

We will see how this works out.

I also will be using some new resin that has a 20 min pot life and 4 hour set time.

Hopefully this will cut down on the pin holes.

Again we will see how this works.

The resin will flow tomorrow !!!

Pictures are still an issue

Death to photobucket.

Re: 1/18th Scale Mi-24 Hind Figure In !!

Ok Guys,

Here it is in black and white . This was my guess on the final materials tally with 23 units sold at the time.

R and D books --------------------------------------$ 100
3 x 1/35 Trumpeter kits ----------------------------$280
3-D printing cockpit ----------------------------------$240
3-D printing canopies ---------------------------------$100
3-d printed sensor, rocket pod intake and filter-----$55
3-d printing large piece in progress ------------------$ 450
Rear rotor and main rotor hub -------------------------$190
Exaust nozzels ------------------------------------------$ 15
Paint -----------------------------------------------------$100
Nose sensors and armament---------------------------$85
Canopy plug ------------------------------------------$126
Decals------------------------------------------------- $250
Stencils -----------------------------------------------$240
Metal gear-------------------------------------------- $250 ?
RTV and Resin-----------------------------------------$1000 ?

Total--------------------------------------------------$3,481

The resin and RTV was seriously low balled.

In reality it has taken 1 one gallon kit ( 2 gallons ) to pour 3 fuselage sections.
Turtle deck , main fuselage and tail boom. 2 GALLONS !!!!!!!!!

So that will be 8-9 gallon units --------------------------------------------$1000
I have used 5 gallon units ( 10 gallons) and need about 3 more units --$1,400

Hopefully Daremo will get his parts out for -------------------------------$250
I ordered 10 more sets of stencils and landing gear-----------------------$140
I have a guess on the paint of about---------------------------------------- $250

Gran total of this project is or will be out of pocket----------------------$5,521

I have sold to date 35 units. So $5,521 divided by 35 is $157 per unit.

After a total of over 2 1/2 years of work and a cost of $157 out of pocket per unit.

I will make $143 per unit that will take 2 days to make.

So for the guys who say that this kit is too much money.

Well they just can kiss my azz.

To harsh ?

I think Toy-R-Us is still selling that Chap Mei piece of crap for $30.

Hey Guys ,

I think that I may have tackled the one thing I have been worrying about since I have started this project.

The main rotor hub.

I know that the resin that I use would not be strong enough to hold the blades up . So I have been working on a skeleton that would.

I have no skills at all soldering so I have used an epoxy to hold the parts together . FAILER.

Then I used thick super glue with the blades inserted . It held for about 6 months until I dropped something on the hub by accident. FAILER .

Then I saw this and watched the video .

http://www.micromark.com/Resistance-Soldering-Unit

So I paid the $130 and had it shipped. I used it Saturday and what a complete success.

Insert releasing doves here !!!

I will do my best to try another photo carrier and post some pics.

Once again , Photo bucket must die !!

This is a call out to all of you Russian experts.

I am trying to get my order of paint in for the full builds .

So I need to know the exact paint colors that I will need.

I know Ammo of Mig has the cockpit colors kit and I will be using that.

They also have modern helo paint colors but I am not sure what modern helos they go to.

I need a color call out for Model Masters enamel and if not Tamiya Arylic

1. Afganny War Dark brown on tan over sky blue
2. Cold War Green on tan over sky blue
3. Modern Green on light gray over sky blue.

I need help on this ASAP so I can get my order in.

Model Masters paint may be discontinued in the near future .

Lots of Hind pictures.

Here is a color callout for the Green on tan using Humbrol paint.

Go to bottom of page.

http://ipmsstockholm.org/colorcharts/st ... soviet.htm

Painting

This kit has two options for finishing the Hind in either German or Polish Air Force markings. The colors are the same for both with variations in the camouflage pattern. My Internet photo search netted multiple views of # 457 of the Polish Air Force. What really attracted me to this bird were the menacing evil eyes painted on the engine intake debris covers. The kit instructions are fairly accurate in terms of the colors called out. I used Model Master Underside Blue, Afrika Dunkelgrun and Italian Olive. The underside blue was shot first, masked and than the Afrika Dunkelgrun. Next, I outlined the green pattern with a brush following the photos and filled in with the airbrush. The canopy framing ,toward the bottom of the main part, was faint or not there. I like to mask with Tamiya yellow tape but you need to see a line through the tape to cut to. I ended up using some old Parafilm that is clear laboratory film that you stretch to make it tacky then stick it on and trim it.

Pickel,
When I click on your image, I 'm directly linked to Pictoraptor, and the picture is much and anough bigger than it appear here on ssmhq.
It is also very agreable with pictorator not to have a forest of advertising pop-ups you have to erase before getting to the image you're looking for.
I've temporarly choosed an other site, but could move to this one...
