Luft X 1/72 German Haunebu I Display Model

Post by tmanthegreat » Mon Mar 06, 2017 12:55 am

I had to chuckle when I saw the newest addition to the Luft X model lineup:

It's a very interesting choice, however, even if it is only a fictional aircraft. I think I'm down for one though, as it will be fun to have a model of the Nazi UFO 8)

there are currently two 1/72 model kits of the Haunebu available and now the Luft X prebuilt is coming. I'm hoping Luft X is offering a built up version of one of the existing plastic kits, as it will probably be better quality than anything Luft X create on their own.

Not really my scale but I do have two of the Luft X planes. I like this Haunebu offering and may order one.

I was just looking at the Mule link and I think this offering by Luft-X is going to be a built up model kit, which is good. It will most likely be the Wave Haunebu which is also 8 x 8 inches (it's the smaller of the two model kits available...the other is quite a bit larger even though they are both '1/72'). The fact that it has undercarriage up or down options is pretty neat too.

this has been released now. I just ordered one. From the Mule pics it looks to be one of Luft-X's best offerings, quality wise. Has retractable or at least optional u/c up/down positions. I'm sure it's the Wave kit built up. Going to be a fun addition to the collection, albeit a guilty pleasure :D

My wife gave me a Squadron Models 1/72 Haunebu II as a gift for Christmas.

A well designed kit that went together quickly. I'll post some pics this weekend

That's excellent job.
It looks way better than the Luf-x version.

Thanks guys, it was a fun build, my only problem were the little porthole windows. that's
why I work in larger scales.
I've always liked the What If or Paper Panzer topics. Not into conspiracy theories or anything
like that, its just that I've built so many Tigers, Panthers, 109's, 190's and so on in all scales....
just like something different.
The Luft X stuff is very cool...wish it were bigger. :D

The Luft X version is a built up model of the Wave Haunebu I kit. The Haunebu I was a much smaller craft than the Haunebu II, which is what the Squadron kit represents, and had wheeled u/c a large turret on top etc. It's a better looking machine than the Haunebu I. The Haunebu II was supposed to have been developed by Dornier; not sure who developed the Haunebu I

Any more comments on the Luft-X Haunebu?

I'm thinking of getting one.

I got one about a year or so ago from my local Hobbytown store, but haven’t opened it yet. The model is actually quite large and heavy. It has retractable landing skids and rotating turrets. I don’t know if the camouflage (splinter camo design) is accurate, but then this is a fictional aircraft so anything could be possible... There are some good photos of the actual product on The Flying Mule website: https://www.flyingmule.com/products/LX-LUFT010
