Russian Tanks/SPg's

Post by Aracula » Sun Sep 11, 2016 3:01 pm

Hey all I always thought the 1/18th market never had enough of the Russian armor made except for a few T34's, and as a future project I was thinking of building a Russian tank or SPg kit, like the KV1, or the IS2 or maybe a SU 76. I was wondering what others thought about this idea, or maybe if there was another country who should be represented more in the 1/18th market. Like maybe the Brits, Cromwell, or Valentine, Matilda, Crusader, or Comet.

Let me know what you all think, I love building these vehicles and plan on continuing to do so, so lets hear what you all think.

Thanks

I second the T-55 or T-62. A T-72 would be cool too.
Go Ugly Early in 1/18!!

Still waiting and wishing for a 1/18 A-10 Warthog.

I would like to see the KV1 or IS2 made as well as the British tanks such as the Cromwell, Comet and Crusader III.

I have always wanted a SU85 or a SU100. How about making a kit that could fit onto Matthews excellent T34?

It's not a tank or an SPG and it's certainly not WW2 but I would consider coming back to 1:18 for a BRDM-2 and some appropriate 1st or 2nd Chechen War Russian figures to go along with it.

Kduck I could for sure build that vehicle, it looks rather easy to build actually.

Someone put one up in 1/18 on Shapeways, but it's prohibitively expensive.

I've seen your work and I'm sure that you could do an awesome job. I don't do any 1:18 scratch building or conversions but the lines are similar to the Chinese IFV from Power Team and I've wondered if that vehicle could be used as a starting point or a parts donor for certain Russian vehicles like the BRDM-2 or the BTR series.

I've seen that BRDM-2 on Shapeways as well as some other modern Soviet/Russian models and most of them look very nice. Unfortunately as you mentioned, they are prohibitively expensive. I've bought some 1:6 items from there but nothing in 1:18. I can't really afford custom or 3D printed vehicles in 1:18 without giving up or cutting way back on my other interests. My primary collecting interests are 1:6 modern Russian figures and that hobby has gotten quite expensive, so I would have a hard time doing both scales unless I were collecting 1:18 items from a regular retail line. I doubt that modern Russian armor and figures will ever be mass produced in 1:18 but one can always hope. Below is a link to the store where the BRDM-2 and quite a few other vehicles can be found on Shapeways as well as another store with some nice Russian items, including an excellent looking ZSU-23-2.
