bbi F6F - 19 or 35?

Post by flayrah » Thu Apr 07, 2016 3:25 pm

What fuselage number is on the non-sharkmouth version? I've seen photos with 19, and other photos with 35, including the listing at SSHQ Database. Were both versions produced?

Flayrah, the "non-sharkmouth" BBI F6F should have the number 19 on the tail and fuselage. It is the mount of the famed USN ace, Steve Vraciu. This was the first of the two BBI F6Fs. Its major paint flaw is that the kill markings were only included on the left side of the cockpit when they should also appear on the right side. There was once a decal correction set for those markings.

For what it's worth, the Catmouth F6F was flown by Lt. Richard Stambook, a co-creator of the Catmouth artwork.

It's a shame that the echo is so bad in this video. The voices are nearly impossible to understand.
