Just finished making the molds for the main parts and I have completed the other side of tracks.
Hopefully I can make the molds tomorrow for both sides of the track.

All the molds have been made and I have done a little pouring . All the parts seem to coming out fine.

I like how the tracks have come out using my new flexy resin . .

I am not sure if they should be joined with CA glue or the flexy resin.

I have to experiment .

Hey Guys ,

I have all of the orders poured !

I am just about done with kitting the parts and I have done a few experaments with the tracks.

It looks like plain old CA glue ( extra thick ) will hold them together just fine .

The kits should go out today or Tuesday .

The only major modification to the FOV Sherman is to cut off the front glacias .

Measure back 33 mm back from the front edge and it it totally off at that mark.

Use masking tape to get a good mark.

Again measure 33mm from the front of the glascias and cut the hull,

After you cut the hull clean up the new front end and place it onto the bottom hull .
Then slide in the rear hull to the new piece ( sitting on the peg holes of the bottom hull ) then glue them together.

The rest of the kit should go together after looking at the picture of the prototype .

Use this to prime your tracks and they will not get sticky

He Guys .

The tracks are having a major issue .

Around the main drive and rear ideler the tracks are cracking .

I am not sure what is doing this because the resin I am using has plenty of stretch .

The thick CA glue seems to be holding at the track joins and I can shoot CA glue in the cracks but this is not looking to good. Unless you plan to muddy up the tracks then it is a none issue .

It took mw 1 hour to dress up and glue the tracks together compared to 4 HOURS IT TOOK TO DRESS BUT THE DUCK BILL TABS ONLY.

Another option is cut off the areas that will wrap the drive and idle .
Cut the bills off of the resin parts .
Glue the bills to the original tack .
Cut sections to go around the affected area.
Splice the original tracks onto the resin tracks.

I am going to try this .

Of course like I said before if you plan to muddy up the tracks this will be a not issue because you can just fill in the cracks on the resin tracks with thick CA glue.
Muddy up and problem is gone .

OK Guys MAJOR ISSUES.

DO NOT USE THE TRACKS I SENT OUT.

I am working on 2 full builds and both sets split off of the running gear .

I just got off of the phone with Smooth On and they are sending me an actual casting rubber that will do the job.

The casting rubber has a 16 hour cure time .

So at best it will take a week to repour all of the orders .

THIS SUCKS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well I made a pour of the tracts and this stuff is truly rubber .

It should have no problem what so ever wrapping around the wheels .

The rubber is urethane so I am working to see what kind of paint to use .

I have found some urethane primer paint ( on the interernet ) that is used on car bumpers .

This could be the way to go .

Now I also need to find out what will join the track ends together .

Thick CA glue
Rubber Cement
Rubber Epoxy
Actual resin itself
???

These tracks are going into uncharterd waters of the 1/18 world .

This has never been done before .

If I can get things worked out it will open all kinds of doors for all kinds of projects .

The old semi rigid resin worked well when bent but the combination of bending and lulling under pressure split the tracks in about an hour.

The tracks go on like a tight like rubber band.

I am sure if I added a couple of track links making the tacks longer MAYBE the pulling pressure would not be as bad .

Maybe .

But that would be plan " C " if the urethane tracks don't pan out .

OK I think we are out of the woods .

I sprayed the tracks with my primer sealer and got some bumper and trim spray primer from O Rielys Auto .

Both worked well in a stretch test so it looks like both can be used .

The primer sealer is gray and the bumper primer is black.

As far as which one is better I do not know . But imperfections are easier to pick out with the gray and the black hides most of the imperfections .

On my builds I will use the gray first for touch ups and then go over with the black .

I glued the ends together with thick CA glue and they seem to holding together STRONGLY.

OK Guys ,

This is it. It is too bad that the first semi rigid resin did not work.

It cleaned up real nice with very little effort .

The new cream colored rubber tracks are another story.
It took me 4 hours of trail and error to clean it up.
The problem was the flash between the duckbills as well as the inside tips on the other side of the links.

So here is what I came up with and the second set I had to make , took me right at 1-1/2 hours to complete .

You can try your own method but believe me when I tell you I TRIED EVEYTHING !!!!!!!!!!!!

If YOU FOLLOW THESE STEPS YOUR TRACKS CAN BE READY TO PAINT IN ONE AND A HALF HOURS.

Tools needed
A. Sharp scissors
B. Needle nose pliers
C .Thick super glue
D. Super glue kicker
E. X-acto with new sharp scapple type blade. . The pointy # 11 will not work.
F Sanding board
G. Dremel not pictured
Image

Spray the black rubber bumper paint FIRST ( allow to dry ) then lightly spray paint the gray primer sealer . LIGHTLY !!

You do not want to coat the tracks just change the color a bit to see the details with the gray

Step 1

Make a cutting jig . The rubber is so soft that it needs a backing so you can cut through it .

I glued 3 strips of thin plywood so that the teeth of the track will fit in and the duckbills would be supported . It will be nearly impossible to cut the rubber cleanly if you do not make it .

Image
Image

Step 2

Cut the major flash off with the sharp scissors . Finish up with Dremel . Touch the Dremel as soft as you can.
DO NOT CUT BETWEEN THE TRACKS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Touch up with sanding stick.

Image
Image

Step 3

Using sharp scissors cut between track nibs .
Cut one side then the other , cutting at a 45 degree angle . Then pull out flash with needle nose pliers .

Image

Step 4.

Run a thin bead of super glue on the BACK SIDE OF THE FLASH.
Do about 6 links and spritz with kicker .
Repeat until full track link is done .
Try to glue the flash only .

Image

Step 5

Place the track in the jig and cut with x-acto .
Cut the track between the duck bills left side right side cutting at a 45 degree angle .Kind of like cutting down under the duck bill making sure you cut all the way through and slicing by the duckbill.
Pull off flash between links with needle nose plier .

Image

Step 6
Sand the back of the duckbills
Image

Step 7

That is it paint !!

Paint with bumper paint. That stuff has a nasty smell to kit make sure you paint OUTSIDE !!

Matthew, Are the molds for this project still use able by any chance? I just read all three pages of it and I'm very impressed by your craftsmanship and your dedication to making things right, until they are right. I would very much be wanting one of these if it is a possibility. Thanks in advance!

Yep they are all good.

But....

I will probably sell just the duckbills rather than make the full tracks.

They were VERY PROBLEMATIC !!!!!!!!!!!

Hello,

This is the Jumbo, I have not quite finished the prototype on the Easy 8

I need to get a few HINDS out first before I get back on that project.

Usually I charge the price of the kit then double it for the full build .

To build an easy 8 the price may be about $74 more depending on how far you want it detailed.

Of course you need to supply the donor model.
