Leo Models Diecast Aircraft

Post by Dauntless » Mon Mar 02, 2015 6:36 am

Leo die cast aircraft will soon be available again from at least a couple of US. retailers.
http://www.aikensairplanes.com/search.p ... _query=leo

http://www.themotorpool.net/Leo-Models- ... -s/431.htm

Some of this has been sold under various other brands like Italeri or Aeronautica Militaire.
Not much on the 1:100 stuff, but there are some 1:144 and 1:72 pieces I wouldn't mind having, maybe some 1:200.

If you are interested in the 1:72nd scale Fiat CR.32, this is a very nice one----barring a model with QC issues---in a pre-WW2 livery. It can be had for around $20 from one of the Polish sellers---see link:

Thanks, may as well wait as it takes a while from Poland anyways. It looks good though.

I see the Savoi Marchette SM-81 that was so hard for me to get. Along with the SM-55X which I never got yet, and the Flying Boxcar Fairchild too.

Where's the Falco though? The CR-42 is missing from the line-up. :(

all the 1/72 models in that line are pretty nicely done. Nice delicate models. I have many of them but i passed on the CR 32 as i have the Ro in the same pre war paint scheme......i'm holding out for a Spanish Civil War CR32. There's also a Nieuport 11, not shown in the links......a very nice model but hard to find at the moment. The Macchi 72 is very nice but the rear wing braces are too long and bow up as a result...pretty easy to fix.

So they are nicely done then. The prices are the same as the Amercom models. From what I can see the detail seems to be better than the Amercom's. The WWI biplanes look to be worth having as well. Been putting off getting any WWI, but there are enough out there in 1:72 scale to start collecting them, as well as the pre-war early WWII biplanes. I was impressed with the SM-81 for such a small 1:144 model, though Epaps repaint made it even better. 8)

I saw a documentary on PBS about the "Italian Americans" the origins and contributions to American society.
Pre war support for Mussolini was quite prevalent then. That quickly changed after entering the war.
There was a segment of a famous event where a transatlantic flight of an entire squadron of Italian SM-55 float planes landed in New York, ticker tape parade etc. , so the plane was famous for that particular event. Quite interesting.

the wwi biplanes in particular are quite nice....very delicate as opposed to the chunky look of other prebuilt wwi planes. The Hanriot HD1 is the best to get as it was mostly used by the Italians, even though it was a French design. The Nieuport and Spad are nice but were only used in small numbers by the Italians, though both planes represented by Leo are of Italian ace's planes.

Thanks for posting, I like that C-119, wish it was USAF though.
A helicopter does not want to fly, it just vibrates so much that the ground rejects it

The Italian Ansaldo WW1 recon plane is one of the nicest in this above average line and it's quite large---slightly larger than a Corgi 1:72nd scale Spit.

Epap's right......i'd forgotten the Ansaldo (even though i recently picked one up). It is very nice too. Would love to see some repaints of these models some day, in more interesting markings (eg French Nieuport and Spad, Spanish Civil War CR 32 etc).

My Spanish Civil War code 3 of the Fiat CR.32 is in this picture along with the line's regular version----tailplane stripes added--- and a slightly modified RO-37:Image

The Ansaldo is the RO-37? (it doesn't say)

Goes nicely with the CR-32. 8)

Both it says saw some service in WWII.

the Ansaldo is a WWI era biplane.....it's not shown in Epap's pic and i'm not sure if it was on Motorpool's site.

No, not up for sale. Another that they aren't reissuing along with the CR-42. :?

Looked it up, sleek looking for a WWI biplane.

Hopefully if the line is popular enough we might see it and others that are missing from the lineup.

i'd grab it while you can.......no gaurantee he'll be getting more and no other prices come close.

the Nieuport is hard to find at a good price...and.the two CR 42's are very tough, but i suspect all 3 will be reissued like the others..

Is that 1:72 or 1:00 like the listing says?

The upper wing measures 5 inches----which make the Ansaldo a 1:72nd scale model.

correct. The MC 72 is also 1/72 but is often mis-listed as 1/100. It's best to double check scales with these subscription type series, as errors are common among sellers.

Ok, got one thanks guys. Very colorful looking. There aren't any pics out there except for the stock photo so can't exactly see what's painted on the sides but looks interesting. The whole plane looks like it's got a lot going on with the paint. 8)

I'm on my way with some WWI aircraft now.
