Nice work on the HE-111. 8)

Just a twin bomber, but I can imagine the size next to one the 21stC fighters we're used to is large.

Always wanted to see one put together on here.

Was it a difficult build?

Thanks. My flaws are less obvious than those of a Chinese assembly line worker.

For the most part it was; a couple of spots here and there needed fudging. Hardest for me was masking the canopy as the lines are very faint to keep them from looking overscale, but that makes it very difficult to follow them through the tape when cutting. But now I have practice for the Ju88 and the He219.

Most disappointing part of the build was wanting to display it with the bomb bay open and bombs sliding out, but having the interior piece that holds the bombs come loose inside AFTER I sealed everything up. Had to position the doors closed as I wasn't able to reseat the part from outside the fuselage.

Jagdpanther now down to treads and weathering:

Image

And I've lain primer on my Elefant and Pzkpfw IV Ausf D so those will be done soon, then only 29 more kits to paint and I can start building again.

Oh, and here's a size comparison:

21st Century 109 kit (my paint dummy), the He111, and the 1/35 JP below:

Image

Now, my B17 has a wingspan ONE FOOT WIDER that the He111, which equals about one more 109 added to one end.

Okay, so I finally finished the first of the 31 armor kits I built earlier this year while the weather was bad and couldn't paint (My build room is exposed to temp/humidity issues).

This build was pretty much OOB, but I had to make some alterations due to incomplete info on Tamiya's part. I chose to go with some late model features included in the kit (G2 version) but it was not indicated that the pioneer tools (among other small changes) were supposed to be relocated to the rear of the vehicle so I had to break off everything, relocate it, and repair the damage left. Since the tow cables supplied were now too short to fit the new layout, I made one out of wire and the cut-off ends of the originals. I also used leftover screen from a Tiger kit to make vent covers. I decided to go with a scheme I saw in an online pic as it seemed to differ from the usual run of paint jobs. I painted it initially with Krylon red primer, as it was pretty close to the factory primer to suit my eyes, and laid the Dunkelgelb over that and outlined it in white. Took a lot of touching up as my AB skill is still novice level and I was experimenting with acrylics in an attempt to wean myself off enamels. Decided I like Tamiya better than Vallejo for AB use.

Anyway, I started by making it look factory fresh, then I washed it down, used a sponge to dab it with chipping, rusted up the exhausts and applied some soot to the outlets, and lightly dusted down the entire vehicle. The vinyl tracks were washed, dusted with rust and worn with a silver pencil, then glued in place to simulate sag. The lower suspension was then slathered in dark gray pigment to simulate an old mud coat and all was sealed in a matte coat.

Take another look at her.

She's OOB, as all my planes are ceiling hangers and I don't really have much use for aftermarket stuff no one will likely see. I save that for my armor, which is kept at eye level.

Decided not to go with the more common splinter. Tried my hand at some new weathering tricks I've picked up here and elsewhere, along the lines of chalk pigments and more washes. Some panel pre-weathering which might have gotten out of hand, possibly.

Take it for what it is, and that is built for personal amusement. As long as it convinces the unwashed masses I'm okay with it.

I'm convinced, looks really good. Nice work, nice weathering. Just the right amount of semi-gloss/ dullness in the paint. The pre-marking of the panels seems to have worked out well.

This is a Libya scheme I assume. Looks a lot better than the pathetic mustard colored 1:72 Corgi I have.

If you haven't built something already, I can think of a couple of 21stC 1:32 British desert P-40's that could be attacking it.

Thanks.

IRT Dauntless: Yes, it is Libya, but from what I understand the group depicted in the kit decals didn't actually have any P-series 111's, just H-series. Revell fudged things to provide an alternate to splinter or nightbomber black.

Here's what is about to drop in the coming month plus a sneak look at my next aircraft - see if you can guess from the sprue shots.

May not get much time to work on these this weekend as a relative decided to visit on short notice and I now lose tomorrow afternoon, but hopefully I can at least get a first run of camo on the Dunkelgelb gang.

Yeah, quite impressed too with your work, especially the HE-111. 8)

Is the Hurricane a MK IIC with the tropical filter, and maybe a tank buster?
Can't see those parts on the sprues though.

It's actually the old Revell kit, and although it comes with markings for NA it offers no paint or decal guide beyond what's on the box cover. I assume they didn't provide a tropical filter either. Revell did have a habit of reissuing old kits with new markings to sell the same thing over again without changing the actual kit. But it was a quarter of the price of the kit from Pacific Coast Models, so...

They flew Hurricanes down there in the MTO without that stuff on them anyways.

Yeah, I don't really do the paper models.

Or Modern era for that matter.

It could still be a great conversation piece, though the size could be a bit of a problem...
I also agree that paper isn't exactly the best, but look at all the things you could have in the scale, that you can't get in plastics...

Yes, I've seen all the free downloads, but finding a printer that will print them properly is not so easy. Most desktop printers have issues with the A4 paper. I tried to get one working a couple of years ago and it just never came out right.
