Who wants a " Natter " Viper Scale Drawing Pics !!
There are a couple of guys on this forum who really want the " Natter ".
Believe it or not one board member has already started with a prototype of the " Natter " and another has made mention of maybe stating one as well.
I think that it would be a simple project as well and made notions of " some day " starting one.
In lew of all this a " Natter " will be built .
When? Who knows .
The other 2 guys as far as I know were just going to make a kit .
Full builds are still up in the air.
Who is in for a " Natter " kit in 1/18th scale ?
I do not have the measurements in front of me . If memory serves me right the measurements will be.... AGAIN I KNOW THESE ARE NOT TRUE MEASUREMENTS.
Wing span aprx. 6 inches
Length aprx. 14 inches
The easiest display stand would either be a travel dolly or the telephone launch tower.
The original tele tower was 70 feet tall. That works out to just under 4 feet tall in 1/18th scale !!!
So an abbreviated tower would look OK 24 inches tall or so.
Est. price without tower $100-$175.
I am doing this poll to see it there is truly any interest .
I am not sure if I will in on this project or not.
Right now I have my hands full with one project and have the biggest project I have ever been a part of on the horizon.
Speak up !!

Re: Who wants a " Natter " ?
I think allot more people would want one if they knew more about it. All you guys who love WWII it is a must as its one of the best (by that I mean bazaar looking) German wonder weapons and all you guys you like your modern aircraft you should want one too as this is where the world gave birth to VTO or Vertical Take Off. Like the Horton it was not used in combat but its technological advancements are still felt to this day in such aircraft as the F35.
If nothing else when someone see's a 1/18 Natter in your house and they ask "whats that?" its a fun story of explaining that the pilot had to endure a 3G vertical takeoff, get up to altitude and had one shot of 24 high explosive rockets (like a shotgun) that would engulf a bomber. After the attack it would dive to a reasonable altitude and the pilot would pull some more levers and the whole aircraft would break apart and fall to earth in parachutes. The pilot would be thrown out where he would then pull his parachute and float down just to do it all again the next day. Makes for a very rough work day...
You know I want one! They are about the same size as a V1 Buzz Bomb.

Pickel:
I originally said NO on the survey but after seeing Jnew...'s pix, put me down for 1.
What color would I make the finished kit? Looks like a light green with white cammo?
Would you include some sort of cradle? Not the tower just something to sit on?

Thanks, thats a pic from the Chino Air Museum I got to go to this last summer as a side trip on the way to Disneyland. Its cool to walk around, as far as the camo goes its actually the reverse of that, very light blue all over, then the green camo up top.Threetoughtrucks wrote:Pickel:

I like the pics Normandy!!! The paint is great on the top one and the bottom one looks like the guy is explaining the take off procedure to the GI
TTT, I would assume that he would make some sort of cradle. That is how the DML 1/48 kit comes. (See Below)

With that Est. price, ill vote yes on this one, it would be a cool little model, IF pre-built.

Re: Who wants a " Natter " ?
Would be a pretty cool model, of what has to be one of the most dangerous aircraft ever, for its pilot.
To be honest, on the fence about this. Not a yes, but not a no either.
As my painting skills are a thing of the past , would need to have someone do the painting. Probably not alone in this.
PH, would you have anyone lined up for some commision work on these?

Re: Who wants a " Natter " ?
uuhhh, YES.
I´ve seen a LANZ EILBULLDOG pulling a special starting ramp including the Natter in 1:87 scale and felt in love for that combination. The 1:18 scaled Wehrmachtstyle modified LANZ is waiting here for years
Maybe I could get some more German guys in here for that project.
Go for it Matthew!!!

I know these two guys.

I´ll meet them in April and I believe they would really like to see a big scaled Natter model.

Re: Who wants a " Natter " ?
I can not speak for the other guys but the price est. I posted is just that an estimate FOR A UNBUILT KIT $100-$175.
Painting on the Natter was / would have been simple .
The dark green that is used on the Stuka and RLM white on the bottom.
There was also the mottled pattern which consisted of white on the bottom sky blue base on top with the broun violet mottled over the blue.
The numbers and geometric shapes used during the testing trails would not have been used on production models.
As well as no crosses or swazties would have been used on production models.
The use of these emblems were forbidden on expendable craft as per RLM regulations.
Although they do look cool on them.
If I were to go into production and were to do a full build , as always the price of a full build would be double that of the kit price.
As far as a stand or dolly is concerned the stand would be the cheaper way to go.
The dolly needs a frame and wheels and will be a whole other kit itself.
Remember my V-1 dolly ?
My thinking is this go with the telephone tower.
Of course it would be silly to make it 4 feet tall .
Make it slightly higher than the model . The main trunk would be a wooden dowel with resin outriggers and wood strip guides/rails.
This would display it the way it looks at launching take up a smaller foot print on the shelf and above everything else...IT WOULD BE CHEAPPER THAN THE DOLLY AND COULD BE INCLUDED WITH THE $100-$175 PRICE !!!!!.
I sold about 30 of the v-1 dollies at $45 .
That could / would raise the price of kit if the dolly is used.
As I stated in the first post , 2 other guys have been working on the Natter and with the A-10 project looming I am not sure if I will be part of this project or not.
I was just trying to see interest and so far it looks pretty positive .
I tell you if the A-10 was not on the horizon this would be a fun project to get into .
But time schedules and things do not always go the way they are planned.

Re: Who wants a " Natter " ?
On more thing.
Would you all want the nose cone in place or would you want it so the honeycomb rocket tubes and rocket points visible ?
The nose cone would keep the price down.
The exposed rockets would add 2 or 3 other complicated parts to be made and copied.
On the original the nose cone would be in place at launch and ejected when ready to fire the rockets.

Re: Who wants a " Natter " ?
Personally I dont want a telephone pole with mine. It never flew from a telephone pole, that was only planned. If I want to display it in takeoff form I would build my own tower and cut it off about a foot above the natter or hell maybe go the full size
The 1/48 DML kit and the one at Chino that I posted a pic of are both on a cradle, not a dolly, its just a box, no wheels. I would be fine with that and I suspect many others would also.
I would want the rockets in the nose and a nose cone so I could display it like the Chino pic I posted on the cradle or with the cone on in take off position on my tower once its built.
However to make it easier Im fine with the canopy not opening, or the rockets not really working either

^what he said, but I would rather an opening canopy, or at least an optional one.^Jnewboy wrote:Personally I dont want a telephone pole with mine. Re: Who wants a " Natter " ?
I'd vote for a closed nose to save agrivation on PH's part. I'd vote for a closed canopy because how would you do a instrument panel and seat in an open canopy..... another way to keep PH up at night.
Another point... if the vehicle is displayed on a cradle or a launching tower, the nose cone would have to be on. A launching tower would be a horror for PH.

I agree, a launching tower would be to much on PH and most people would not have the room. I also agree that a closed canopy would keep things simple. I want it to be simple so that it actually gets made.

Re: Who wants a " Natter " ?
the tower WOULD be a bit to much, who has rom for that anyways??
But i still think at least an opt open/closed canopy would be nice, kind of like the ones on the 21st P-51B..

Re: Who wants a " Natter " ?
Well Pickel there seems to be some interest in this project which is great; but if the Horten took almost a year,
how long would the A-10 take you? And it's mid- March. Do the Natter now..............
I can hear all the A-10 guys now.....Off with his head
As For the Natter, I'd be fine with nose cone that was removable. I'll add the needed details for the rockets.
Canopy, again removable... so you'd have the option for open or closed.
Launch tower, dolly...I just want the Natter itself.
Crazy Kraut, great site!!! http://www.ba349.de/Gallerie-Rumpfwerk.aspx
The second pic (Die Konstukteure) shows the the true scale of the machine, which
to me looks far smaller than I would have thought.
Tell these guys their doing a Great Job!!!

Would prefer to have an opening nose cone, to expose those rockets. But to keep costs down and for simplicity, am fine with a closed nose cone, and canopy.
