Beginnings of my 1:144 aircraft fleet

Post by cs51762 » Fri Sep 21, 2007 7:20 am

New guy here. Below is a pic of what I've collected since I started about 2 months ago. I keep them at work because I actually have more time to play with them there than at home.

Way ahead of ya! I already collect quite a bit of the 1/144 armor, have all the WTM pieces even the "Special" ones, as well as most of the modern stuff available in 1/144 :-)

I received 4 planes today.. 2 Takara and 2 F-toys.. The Takara are nice, but I was surprised and a little disappointed that these were kits, and not just basic kits, they require total assembly!! The F-toys planes are another matter though.. One came fully assembled (Japanese Toryu) and the other came partially assembled (He-219), Both are extremely detailed for their small size and really make me want to buy more..

@hworth18

you must have got series 3 of the takara - it was a it of surprise when they turned out to be kits, but the prepainted quality is still excellent, possibly best on the market!
Series one and two are still built (some minor builiding required)

FTOYS still provide theirs as pre-built items - except the recent "wing club kit series of IJN aircraf" - but at least the title give you a clue!

Cafe Reo also do largely buili items, obviouly trying to fix bombers into smallish box means the wings are detached for logistics.

Bandai items are also largley built too

Dragon / Douyusha as built too

if your real sharp eyed there are even some yujin kits, but these are more for the collector as they scaling and quality inst that great although they do some paint schemes not availabe elsewhere

the 21st century are itneresting as they are cheap and some unusual paint schemes - although hard to find especially if your outside the US.

if you like something really unusal there is the "Popy" collection of "Late war" German prototypes verging on "Luft'46".

and, even rarer Canvas also produce "Late ware" japanese prototypes, now they are hard to get hold off at a good price!

the more you buy the more you will want!!!

I have the CafeReo bomber set #2 on order with my local hobby shop.. I will probably buy more F-toy planes as I really like the medium to large Bombers..

Love this scale. Been collecting off and on for years. They do take up some room if you go for the bigger birds. Sadly they are getting to cost as much as larger scales.

New 1/144 series of prebuilts are still being issued and reissed, both on the basis of the Japanese stlye prepainted assembled/kit formats from F-Toys, Takaratomy, etc and also preassembled series 1/144 larger scale itesm such from Amercom, Altaya and IXO.

My sig should give you a link to my forum and blogs which major in 1/144

i just saw a 'Wings of Glory' Caproni CA3 bomber. It's for a wargame of some kind. It says the model is 1/144 but no dimensions for the model are given. Does anyone know for sure if it's actually 1/144 or just sorta 1/144?

http://www.aresgames.eu/games/ww1-wings ... proni-ca-3

Edit: and there's a Gotha V bomber too, and a bunch of little fighters, all of which are stated as being 1/144. The bombers look good, the fighters a bit chunky, although the Eindekker isn't too bad.

AF

The Ares Games Wings of Glory WWI aircraft are 'proper' 1/144, though geared for War Gaming. A word of caution is that their WWII items are 1/200.

If your an enthusiast then there a load of 1/144 WWI (unpainted) aircraft and much more on 3D printing site www.Shapeways.com, although the site is currently down due to the "Super storm Sandy" knocking out the ISPs in NYC. Give it a few days for business to be restored.

thanks BD...i noticed the Shapeways planes a few days ago, quite by accident. There's quite a selection of them. I can see from pics of the Ares stuff that they are somewhat basic in shape but the painting and detailing isn't bad for the small size. I think the two bombers are pretty cool. The little fighters i'd probably be more tempted to go the shapeways route, but the painting might be tricky. Especially german lozenge patterns and other colourful schemes.

I noticed the now defunkt Wings of War series had a Fokker D VII in it, that is not being offered in the reboot Wings of Glory line up. But the D VII model was pretty bad looking, so i suspect that's why they didn't reissue it. Perhaps they'll make a new one. More bombers would be neat, like a Vimy or Handley Page.

Mehusla does a range of WWI decals optimised for the WoG and Kampflieger Shapeways series etc.... http://stores.ebay.co.uk/1-144-Direct including varios lozenge patterns, could be worht a look...

I think that you are probably correct in that not all WoW have been reissued under the WoG banner. However, to be fair, the WoW/WoG franchise does usually get around to reissue the older series eventually.... so, high ebay prices dont have to be paidif you can steel your self to wait a year or so..... (I Know, I know, I am talking to a plastic crack addict like the rest of us and logic doesnt always hold true!)

i can definitely wait. I saw that a WoW Goring Fokker D VII sold for almost $70....and it looks like poop. These things are too tiny to be paying 1/18 scale like prices on.

i've noticed that both Bandai and F Toys have made IL-2M3 Sturmoviks. Are there any online reviews or opinions of which one is better? From pics, they look practically identical to me, except that maybe the wing fit on the Bandai model is not as good.
