All I see is a paint job. There are several things indicating the car is from the 50's; the most obvious being the bumpers which would have been relatively easy to change and would actually help minimize the other issues.
Also, the trunk opened with a small push-in-the-button-and-turn type of handle, not the loop-type as shown.

As much as I love VW's and would like one for my guys, I don't think there is $135 worth of paint on what is probably a $40 Maisto 1951 Export Sedan.

I actually have now done enough research that I picked up on the errors from a previous discussion. The tires should look more like jeep tires. Lose the hubcaps! :wink: Of course, the bumpers. :? A couple of accessories, (it's either a horn or a siren on the fender). Yes it is the same 1951 that I have. Nice paint job but as MG said, just too pristine! You can get away with a lot inside since it is hard to see. :| I have a same year Cabriolet which would be a tough challenge as the interior is in plain view. :!:

* Here's mine in SS tri-color camo , split \ window , broken wiper & all. "Btw" Dennis ,
what you're referring to on the fender is a Notek blackout light.

If you notice in front of the driver's door, there is a hatch-looking thing behind the fender. That is an air vent known as a "crotch cooler" because the air blew in at about crotch level.

Didn't exist on the pre-50's models. Putty it over!!!

To be honest, the main thing to change is the bumpers, definitely. The other little things won't bother a non-VW person - it just depends on how correct you want it. Changing the handle on the trunk lid might be more work than it's worth. Is the chrome strip still there? That should have been clipped off as they didn't leave a lot of flashy bits on military issue vehicles, but not knowing exactly how Maisto attached that piece it might cause an issue to remove it.

Oh yeah, don't forget the passenger has a crotch as well.

I saw that before auction's end he lowered the starting price and the BIN, but apparently not far enough as it went unsold.

Since you can buy Maistos for as little as $20 he might want to try again with a start of ~$50 and maybe a BIN of $75.
