* What about a set of those big @ss exhaust pipes for the shorter barreled Panther F type Matt ? ... not the longer type II .
............ or would you even need to make & include a set for this mod too ? ... just curious .

Re: "One Of " 1/18th Panther F/ II Wheel Epiphany
Are these the final wheels you are going to make? they look good but the outer wheels dont have the recessed center caps and the inner wheels dont have the extended center caps.. are you going to do that?pickelhaube wrote:

Re: "One Of " 1/18th Panther F/ II Progress Pics !!
I am not done yet guys.
These things take time.
Yes I will do the large stack things ( exhaust )
I will do the shorter barrel for the F with and without the muzzle break.
I am not done with the wheels yet. Those will have the hub caps reworked and the inside wheels will have there axles lengthened a bit.
I already have the skirts done. But if you use those they will almost hide the steel wheel switch out.
I still need to finish the turret as well.
A whole lot of work for only 7 guys .

Perfect, will start on it tomorrow and hope to have it compleated in a week and on the way to you shortly after that, you will make the final desision if you like it and put it in production.....and I really hope you do...it looks fantastic with the Panther F. Will contact you once the prototype is done and ready for your approval.pickelhaube wrote:PLASTICFANATIC wrote:Hope to be one of the seven!!...by the way I once did the IR scope system for my Panther and plan to do another for the F type transkit you are doing...I can sen it to you once I made my new IR scope and mount and if you like it can cast it and offer it with your Panther F transkit.....it will be my pleasure to help.

PH, I had hoped to stay away from this because I wanted to concentrate on your coming King Tiger/Jagdtiger piece.
But if there's going to be the infra-red set for the Panther F, then count me in as the 8th guy for this set (turret/wheels/infra-red, exhausts, sideskirts, etc).
Achtung! Spitfire!

Fly Boy,
That is the perceived Panther II that never came to fruition.
The idea behind the Panther II was to try and unify the panzer tank using the same components on all of their tanks.
Kind of like the Sherman and T-34 , look at all of the variants they have.
I am trying to do the same. PLUS I AM TRYING TO KEEP THE COST DOWN AND GET THIS PROJECT OUT IN A TIMELY MANNER .
Believe me I study a project for a long time before I start cutting plastic.
It is hell when you get into the middle of a project and see a major component that you missed. Granted some of the smaller components are over looked to ease and speed productivity.
In order to do a true ( fictionalized because one was never put together during war time ) Panther II , I would have to make a new main drive , rear idler and a completely new track. Also the wheels of that model are different than the ( standard ) steel wheel that the Germans were trying to switch to.
Also if you look real closely the wheels have been totally laid out differently with actually one of the inner wheels being omitted.
4 banks of outer wheels and 3 banks of inner wheels.
Also the outer wheels have been doubled with the same wheels being doubled towards the chassis.
These double wheels are also made so that the guide teeth ( on the NEW tracks ) can go between them .
So essentially I will have to increase the wheel count that I have now 24 down from 32 back to and over a count of 38 .
So that being the case I will have gone from a $ 65-$90 ( with and with out wheels ) project to a possible $190 with 9 more ( new ) wheels new idler and main drive along with a totally new set of tracks.
That would increase this project at least another 2 weeks ( time I do not have ) for a project that less than 10 guys are interested in .
I have taken all of this into consideration and that is why I am proceeding with the project the way I am.
Please keep up the good work and thank you for bringing this to my attention.

Re: "One Of " 1/18th Panther F/ II Progress Pics !!
The panther II was ordered by Hitler right after the initial panther came out. He wanted it to essentially have thicker armor. There was a prototype built, but the project was scraped. The tank is slightly larger than the G model, which integrated most of the newer features the panther II called for, save for the thicker armor.
The F would have been a new, slimmer turret (the one pickle is making) on top of a modified G chassis. This would have been the final version of the panther tank. They would have been painted olive green like us vehicles. The 75mm gun would have gone in, but the 88mm was fitted. I believe there were technical difficulties, but they were attempting to remedy that. Once the panther had the 88mm the king tiger would have received 105mm gun.
All tanks were to get stereoscopic sights and possibility of stabilized guns too. The panthers would have been using technologies that didn't trickle down into US tanks until the Patton series. A lot of the lessons from the panther went into the leopard prototype as well.
The Panther F, for all intents and purposes, was Germany's first main battle tank. Albert Speer wanted to dump more resources into this track of thinking but a lot of bureaucracy stood in his way. Streamlining the parts of the tanks became the next step, which would have led into the E-series of vehicles, which would make the Panther/ Panther II the E-50.
The E-series would have been outdated with the introduction of the T-54 tank however, and Germany would have to probably go back tot he drawing board once they captured a T-54, thus starting the whole birth of the panther/ main battle tank idea over again.

A little more progress.
I have the wheels done and I think all I have to do is some final parts to the turret and the prototype is done.
All I had was some pictures to go by for the exhaust shroud . I think I got it close what do you guys think ?
Panther F cannon .
New exhaust shroud.

Re: "One Of " 1/18th Panther F/ II Progress Pics 7-25 !!
All right here we go.
I think that other than a few tweaks the turret is done .
II think that I need to cut off the handle off of the rear hatch and all of my lift hooks look a little tall.
All easy quick fixes .
I am not sure if you can notice I enlarged the vision block frames on the copula. They looked a little small to me.
It is funny how you can scale things off of an item but it does not look good to the eye.
Next step is making the tube levitate and make the copula hatch hinge so that they work.
So here ya' all go.

Dang Pickel, those pics look Great!!!
The turret does look big on the Panzer but from the pics I've looked at I think its right.
The turret would have been fixed / welded to the hull...I'm ready for a quick custom project.
