Any need for 1/18 scaleSherman duckbill track extenders ?

Post by pickelhaube » Mon May 16, 2011 4:37 pm

They used them on the Jumbo and almost all the versions in one time or another in the European and Pacific Theaters.

I would not make the whole tracks just the ends.

Thats pretty cool, not sure I've ever seen them on a Sherman, how hard would those be to attach?

You say they used them in the Pacific and Europe?, seems just the thing for the swamps of the pacific. 8)

Is this going to happen? I wouldn't mind a set if a cost can be divulged before hand.

I am making these :D :D

I have made the masters and their moulds. I cast a few every time I cast other stuff.

When I get enough of them made I will make a gang mould for one full set.

Quite a few guys off of the forum want them as well. :D

Will these be available with the Jumbo kit?

Yes they have to be .

With the additional weight of the Jumbo they all had them.

So the Jumbo would not be correct with out them.

Well 5 months later and I have something to show !!!

It is too bad I put them on the same side of the tracks and I checked to make sure I would not do this

          .

What you are looking at is about 4 hours of work.

I can set the little tabs for about $15 and do a built track set for about $45 ?

I have my buddy Daremo ( he casted all of the new HUMVEE parts ) looking into casting the track lengths with duck bills connected.

The FOV tracks are in 2 parts so they will be about 13 inches long by about 1-1/4 inches wide. 2 on the left connected and same for the right .

He has cast some black rubber armor vests that feel the same as the FOV tracks .

I actually tried the FOV tracks on the BBI and 21st Shermans and they fit great ! The teeth line up perfectly with the main drive and if the price is right the tracks can go as replacement tracks with the addition of the duckbill ends . Which is correct in all theater and almost all makes of the Sherman !!!!!

I am not sure but the majority of all Shermans had the duckbills for most of the island hoping .

He will cast them in black.

I'm up for a set, they'd look great in a winter diorama.
