Question about FOV 1/32 Airacobra

Post by [CAT]CplSlade » Mon Feb 28, 2011 8:27 pm

Is this model (specifically the OD version) worth $57, shipping included? Are there any alternatives near that price. A plastic kit would run me at least $54 before all the paint and cement gets factored.

Does anyone have one and what do you think of it? I have an FOV Mustang so that is kind of putting me off.

In my opinion, the 1/32 AirCobra is FOV's best 1/32 plane. I also have the pinkish/orangish version. $57 is not bad with shipping. You might want to check Treefrog or Sierra Toy Soldier. Both offer free shipping when a purchase exceeds a certain limit. When I purchased mine I think I paid in the $40's.

I did a quick check. Sierra doesn't presently have the AirCobras available. Treefrog doesn't even offer FOV. Check out DStratton.com or 3000 Toys. They have both versions of the AirCobras each available for $47.50 plus a flat rate of $7.50. You'll save $2.50....

I have the FoV P-39, and it is the OD one.

It is far superior to the other FoV 1/32 aircraft, which are basically crap.

There is no other P-39 available in this scale, and given that fact, and it's a decent model, I would give it a recomendation. Just don't expect Corgi, or GMP quality though.

Thanks. I'm leaning towards the pink as it would stand out more against all the OD planes I already have.

aikensairplanes.com has them both for 55.00 with free shipping as well if those other two don't work out.
They have always been great to deal with in my experience.

I've got the OD green "Saga Boy II" version. It is the best of FOV's 1:32 scale planes and a step above all the others they have produced. Smooth panel detailing, opening engine and cockpit, optional positioned gear, movable control surfaces and lots of diecast in the construction make for a great model. It tends not to have the inaccuracies and sloppy detailing that the other FOV planes have and is more like a Corgi 1:32 scale plane in my opinion. The aircraft does tend to be a bit tail-heavy, but will sit correctly on a flat surface. It comes with a standing pilot figure and removable drop tank.

I've got both FOV P39's, and as others have said, it is the best of the FOV 1/32 aircraft - Way better than the P51.
The OD version is a little tail heavy where the Devestating Devil is not.
Anything around $50.00 delivered sounds like a good deal to me.
If you like the P39, you will like both of these models.
