tweeking the wildcat

Post by Yoxford » Tue Jun 15, 2010 11:45 am

tweeked the BBI James Swett wildcat...got rid of the drop tanks filled and painted the holes, added brass tube MG barrels, ran the antenna wires, and much much more weathering ....remember this was spring of 1943, Guadalcanal , sun, dirt, dust, salt air, more dirt...
took this with my phone...better pics to follow.

The sign of a great model is that one’s eye is not drawn to any one feature, yet one can study it for hours and continually find something new.

Thanks mikeyt...I kept the paint chipping to a min....wanted it dirty but not too used...the island soil was rich in volcanic iron so had a reddish tint...used MIG pigments mud, dust, soot, and rust...also added the air port on the inner wing edge & used foil with a "drop" of future for the under wing landing light and formation light on the spine....not much needed as BBI did a great job on this model...here are some much better shots.

WOW

That is fantastic work,Yoxford.

Really gives it that gritty, worn look, without being over done.

You have taken a decent enough model, and turned it into "great" model.

Great job. 8) 8) 8)
