Rumor, 21st Century Toys Zero prototype going up on ebay

Post by heiss66 » Wed Feb 17, 2010 4:58 pm

Gentlemen, rumor has it, the 21st Century Toys Zero prototype is headed for ebay. Word is they're never going to build a Zero so why not offer it up to the collectors. Only seen once, I believe at Comicon in 2002? Not certain of the year.

But just as I said about the rare 109 being original. This one is for the storage vault. It is part of 1:18 scale history. After all, 21st Century Toys created the 1:18 scale.

Wow, just think it could have been 3 3/4 and we'd all be collecting GI Joe.

Debatable. While they may have started accurate military in 1:18, they certainly didn't originate the scale.

What the hell does that mean? I know i've had a lot more fun posing Joes on my 1:18 stuff than i ever have with the "stuck in the '70s" t-crotch 21st figures.

Me too

And wait - 21c did make two different types of Zeros with 6-7 repaints. Oh, wait, those were in 1:32 scale 8)

Agreed on the "creation of 1:18" scale. The first toys in that basic range, which is the general 3.75" to 4" scale, were created in the 1970's (action figures that is, other more static figures may have come earlier of course). 21st Cent. made some really fun military toys though.

I've been into this scale since at least 1982 when I got my first GI Joe though, and really before that when I had Star Wars figures to play with.

Kenner, Hasbro, and many other companies probably have dibs first. ;)

Now Hasbro, make us some Head Sculpt & Endor Uniform variations! The new Rebel Fleet Trooper gets the JJ Seal of Approval Though!

1/18 diecast model cars are a far larger hobby and really got going in the 80's, I always saw 21stC as piggy backing off of this to draw in car collectors (like me), rather than picking the more traditional 1/16 scale used for military models

Just the squadrons. 1st one is from the 261st naval air group tora (tiger) 110 which btw they boffed the scheme, from the greenhouse back should be a different shade of green and they also left off the leader stripes on the wings. 21st got it right on their 32xw version.

2nd one is from the Kounioke training group kou-170 which later was relegated to kamikaze duties. It's pretty much correct and was supposed to be a "limited release" in asia only which didn't ring true since almost all online retailers in the US had them in stock at one time or another.

It would be cool to own one of these. Too bad it never went into production. Though I can see with BBI's Zero release, it might have been a big if to put one out.

But hey, 21st put out many 32X Zeroes for us, and I appreciated that immensely.

This is out of my league, but I'm going to watch it just the same.

Anyone still have actual pics of the prototype from the toyfair to compare? Seems to me like this one wasn't it. :?

AND THERE IS AT LEAST ONE BIDDER......

EVEN THOUGH THE RESERVE HAS NOT BEEN MET.

WHY LIST ITEMS LOWER THAN YOUR RESERVE? ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE STARTING REALLY HIGH TO BEGIN WITH. :?

IT'S NOT LIKE THE AUCTION WAS STARTED AT $.99 (LIKE WHAT EBAY WILL MAKE YOU DO IN THE VERY SHORT FUTURE)

I concur. A reserve price on an item like this is pathetic. Put what you want on it and let it go from there. A waste of everybody's time.

Bring on the A-10 PROTOTYPE.
