1/18 Chinese PLA figure pics

Post by tankduel » Wed Nov 18, 2009 9:32 pm

I got a set of the Chinese troops so I thought I'd post some pics.
I haven't opened them yet, they do have a better looking, rounded knee joint than PTE figures and come with either a cap or helmet.

I like!

See now if PTE did that with all their figures, they'd have me hooked. All I'd really need is to see removable headgear and they'd have me army building. I'd probably replace hands with casts or spares I have, but yeah, those look fantastic to me.

Nice generic headsculpts too, but with just a hair of variety between them. Well done to the PTE crew, they really are innovative for inexpensive. Gotta hand it to them when basically nobody else can say similar.

Where'd you pick them up by chance? And may I ask what they cost? The guns even looked improved in those sets. Definitely not all re-used sculpts too, which is nice.

The boots on these are only half the height of PTE ones, makes them look a lot better.
I got them from a contact in China for $50 inc shipping (the set) if you want some at that price, I' can check and put you in touch with him, I mentioned that in the BST forum.

On Ebay you can buy some, but not the full set, search 1/18 pla.

I opened one up, as far as I can tell the crotch is the only part carried over from the PTE figures. Hands are smaller, wristbands added, lots more sculpted creases, pliable snug fitting helmet. There's even a plastic plug over the screwhole in the back. I think they are a great addition to an XD collection, a big improvement on PTE.
I will take some posed pics soon.

I received some of these few days back, some of the eyes are done poorly, seems their hands were shaking due to lack of/too much nicotine or lead poisoning

I have 2 of the packs with the building sections, if you guys interested I'll try to take n post some pics for your reference

Just some info for the wall sections and fig above,

The wall sections are molded with details on one side only and quite well done and detailed (paint, bullet scars, some weathering), the sections can be joined either on the left or the right side, whatever your fancy or needs. All 4 sections can be joined too as shown on pic-5.

The figure has plenty of articulation points but some limits in range.

Swivel Head
Ball-hinge Shoulder (limited max range to front, arms can't quite point straight)
Swivel Bicep
Swivel Elbow (Limited, cant get 90 degree bend)
Swivel Wrist
Swivel Waist
Ball-hinge Hips (Very good range, great for yoga/kungfu/gymnastics)
Swivel Thigh
Swivel Knee (Limited, tad short 90 degree bend)
Swivel Ankle (Limited, only swivel backwards)

Maybe I was tired last night but had some difficulty getting the figs to stand/pose in various stances, def took more time compared to xd/bbi/sw/joes

I was wrong saying they are the same size as PTE, they are 10cm tall, 2.5mm taller than PTE (9.75cm).
I see the release date on these is 2007, I would think that's not a good sign that this improved style of figure will replace the current figures intended for the export market any time soon.

I got it from an importer here in NZ, threw the box away and I don't remember the brand name.

Very nice and shiny, they need a coat of dullcoat. Other than that they are killer!

There are a lot of those figures here in Macau (Chinese PLA figures, in a Chinese Special Administrative Region? Go figure!).

I actually have quite a few stocked up here in the office and at home, as I bought quite a few of their vehicles, and each vehicle comes with at least 2. But due to the articulation issues, I just use them as generic army figures when I play with my son, e.g. as the dozen or so checkpoint soldiers that my GI Joe Special Ops team wipes out.

But on the other hand, their vehicles are pretty ok, as they are the same molds as the World Peacekeepers. In fact, I'm pretty sure they are the same company, as their website is http://www.worldpeacekeepers.net/. It's in Chinese, but if you click on the second menu tab (the icons with a dot on the side that turns green when you scroll over it) you will get to the toys section. Just click 1:18, and you'll get to the vehicles.
