I am pulling out of the contest. I have to go back to Virginia and take care of some family matters. I ran out of time and the matters in Virginia will take about a week to clear up. It was fun talking about the contest but I just simply ran out of time and may the best man ( or woman) win. :D

That's too bad Picklehaube. Maybe I should give a little more time next time.
I hope you can straighten things out without a minimum of grief.

Jay, I will be right there with you! I try to spend at least 1 hour a day working on my entree. I know that I could have finish sooner but I have had to travel a few weeks for my job that cut into the project.
All I can say is that the paint will still be wet when I post the pics on this one!

I really wished I had time for this contest. With summer here and having an eight year old on weekends, it's hard to find time to work on customs.
I hope there will be more contests this Fall or Winter. I really wanted to enter this one. :(

Kevin.

There will be another contest this winter or early next year Kevin. Good work on all the projects guys. I am very impressed with the quality and originality of your work. We can only hope to see some of this cool stuff in production someday. I am currently in Dallas and will be coming home Forth of July weekend. You will have the winner anounced by the deadline.
Good luck to all and thank you for participating in this contest.

Does that mean we have up to July 1 to post or can we post on July 1?

Grognard, by the looks of it, you're the man to beat! You're an artillery-manufacturing machine! Now I'm no expert at studyin' human behaviour, but I'm thinking that you are an artilleryman, either active or retired - because boy, you know what you're doing!

Very good Grognard! Yes Warhawker I consider a post on July 1 acceptable. Good job everyone. I think this has been the best contest so far. In the next couple of days I will be carefully considering all of your work. Thank you for all that participated.

This is NOT a contest entry - unless Kamikaze will count a restoration of an artillery piece as opposed to its actual construction. However, given all the pictures of other great custom cannons, I thought I'd share what I have displayed on my shelf

Image

Image

Its an antique cannon and has full elevation and traverse via several working hand cranks. The breach block opens, but is attached to a spring so that it can "fire" toothpicks or other small projectiles. Although I have Germans placed around it, the gun actually replicates a British AA gun, I believe. Enjoy 8)

Here is my custom. A remote-controlled Hummel.
<a href="http://good-times.webshots.com/photo/26 ... ONOV"><img src="http://thumb16.webshots.net/t/55/455/0/ ... NOV_th.jpg" alt="hummel front1"></a>
The base comes of a 21st Century Panzer IV. All of the remote control components were reused for the Hummel. The original remote turret gear box was modified and rotated 90 degrees in order to raise and lower the 150MM custom artillery.
<a href="http://good-times.webshots.com/photo/28 ... WoiW"><img src="http://thumb16.webshots.net/t/60/460/9/ ... oiW_th.jpg" alt="hummel front2"></a>

The entire housing was made from scratch and detailed.

As well, I weathered the Hummel (see the construction link for details on the Hummel)

The mounting as well was made from scratch.
<a href="http://good-times.webshots.com/photo/27 ... KGLO"><img src="http://thumb16.webshots.net/t/30/466/2/ ... GLO_th.jpg" alt="hummel rear1"></a>
<a href="http://good-times.webshots.com/photo/21 ... fqFg"><img src="http://thumb16.webshots.net/t/50/550/3/ ... qFg_th.jpg" alt="hummel rear3"></a>

<a href="http://good-times.webshots.com/photo/20 ... NRjp"><img src="http://thumb16.webshots.net/t/50/550/0/ ... Rjp_th.jpg" alt="humnel front4"></a>
This project took a lot of hours on researching, detailing and manufacturing the Hummel. I will upload the video of the Hummel in action as well as the movement of the gun tomorrow.
