F-14 Tomcat TF30 Open Nozzles

Bobb428 has asked if I could make some TF30 open nozzles.
I plan on 3D printing one nozzle and making a silicone mold to resin cast.
Is there any other interest?

AN/ALQ-167(V) ECM pod
Early style Sidewinder missile rail

This is an AWESOME idea. Now you can properly pose your Tomcat sitting on it's gear or going all out in flight. Maybe other items to come ?? Hopefully.

I figured I would see if Nathan can do these. I know Steve dis-approves of my B nozzles on my BK! LOL

What off Erwan's list has the most interest? I'm going to take the ejection seat and cockpit set off the list. My 3D skills are no where near the level to do that.

LANTIRN pod
TARPS pod
GBU 24 AB
GBU 12
Mk 82 bombs
AN/ALQ-167(V) ECM pod
Early style Sidewinder missile rail
Early style gun gas vent

I think they would all sell to a extent. I just want the nozzles!

Here's my 2 cents on the list,
LANTIRN pod, yes. This can be used for other airframes : AV-8B, F-16 (pylon needed though )
TARPS pod, no. 162692 ( VF-84 jet ) was not wired to carry a TARPS pod.
GBU-24, maybe but, not for the Tomcat. The VF-84 version NEVER flew them and the VF-154 jet comes with them. Only problem is the 154 jet only has forward pallets and bomb racks so, you can only load one GBU-24 because in real life they were physically too big to load side by side. They had to be loaded diagonally so, one in the front and one on the opposite side in the back. This would have worked if JSI did the 4 pallets, like the 84 version, with bomb racks but, sadly they did not.
You could use the 24's for your F-16 or F/A-18 however.
GBU-12's, yes. These can be used for other airframes as well.
AN/ALQ-167(V) ECM pod, maybe, this could be useful for your F-16 if you want an Aggressor version.
Early side winder missile rail, up to you.
Early style gun vent, no, not unless you want to do a lot of modifications to your Tomcat.

Looking good! Seats and chin pod for an F-14D would be ideal, probably the biggest thing missing in the 1/18 F-14 world. I know you said you were going to be removing the seats, I'm not sure how those are more complicated, design wise, than the nozzles or a flir pod. Many times in model kits, the seats are actually in multiple parts. Perhaps you could produce it like a kit, similar to this and we could put them together ourselves. Leave off the seatbelts etc, that can be left for us to take care of. The seat isn't too terribly complex after that.

For the cockpit, it wouldn't require an actual cockpit, perhaps producing some of the different screens and a HUD for a D cockpit that could be retrofitted into the current cockpit. Maybe I'm wrong but I just feel like the intricacy of the nozzles is more than the items I've mentioned. If you managed to pull those off, I would have to reconsider selling my third JSI Tomcat and convert it into a D!

Excellent idea firefighterpilot1, with 3D printing these days I too would think these are doable.
Items for the cockpit would be an awesome addition as well and I would think all doable with 3Dprinting. At this scale however, you need more than a few screens and a HUD. You would also need the GPS display that sits on top of the RIO's instrument console, the RIO'S Hand Control Unit (HCU) and, the Programmable Tactical Information Display (PTID) control stick. These items might seem "nit picky" but, if left out at this scale, would be very noticeable.
Plus you also need to rework the aft end engine fairings, for the B/D and, remove the ECM blisters under the glove vanes. The two larger ones can be removed, leaving quite a hole to fill and, I guess the other two smaller ones can be sanded away, not sure if theses are hollow or not.

One more thing, since we're talking about a D model. There is a guy, from Germany, on Large Scale Planes who is currently converting his JSI Tomcat to a D model. It's quite impressive what he has posted so far. If your interested go here to check it out;

Steve,
LANTIRN pods for the Av-8B and F-16 are the same, but different than the Tomcat one...
TARPS and AN/ALQ16(v) can be useful for a repaint ( not keeping the VF-84.markings and adding an correct BuNo)
Early style gun vent: sure ! Early VF-84 bird related to the JSI marking had them...
Do not forget that JSI’s VF-84 birds are a mix of different era (NACA gun vent,BOL launcher, late ECM suite) that current VF-84 box marking had not...
So everything is possible from the moment it match « real-life » combination.
That D conversion is really nice!

AAQ-14 Pod still needs detail added. I believe the F16 and AV8B used the AAQ-28

Hi Nathan!
My exhaust have been received and they are awesome!!!
One thing that I forgot, is the real interest to get the GE-110 corrected engine shroud modeled in 3D...
Anybody that want to convert its -A to a -B/-D has to model this part with putty... which is a pain in the a**...
Any chance ?
Bonjour the way... any news about the LANTIRN,,
Regards,
Erwan

Good to hear they arrived safely. A board member is sending me his armourment off his bombcat to cast. It was going to cost $60 just to 3D print the lantirn. All extra $$$ is going to getting the 163 completed. Response to the TF30 nozzles were less than expected. It’s a small interest group.

Hi Nathan,
I have a fifth F-14A on the way , so I will order you one or two more set in a month
I will take a LANTIRN too: do you have included its specific pylon too?

Erwan

Painted nozzles I did for a board member. Tried my hand at the hot metal effect. Flash washes out a lot of the effect.
