Fireflies light up the night (1/18 Firefly and Jagdpanther)

Post by flyboy_fx » Sun Jan 08, 2017 10:58 pm

Commissioned work is helping give me some pocket change during my university time (chemical engineering), so a huge thank you to everyone who has given me work as I've grown in skill over the years.

Very pleased to show off my latest commissioned pieces. The 1/18 Sherman is quite a rough model to stomach without a facelift. The Jagdpanther was not built by me, it was just sent to be repainted.

Sherman IC Firefly of B Squadron, East Riding Yeomanry, 33rd Armoured Brigade, Jan-Feb 1945 Ardennes. I don't have very much information on this particular scheme other than it's shown in an old 1/48th Tamiya Firefly kit. I researched other examples of the 33rd Armoured Brigade in late 1944 and 1945 and modeled it accordingly. I'm sure there is a photo of this particular example floating around that I couldn't find.

"Jagdpanther '321' of the sPz.Jg. Abt. 654. This unit was raised on the 22. March 1943 in Rouen (France) and was transferred on the 13. June 1943 to the Eastern Front with a complement of 45 "Ferdinand's". After the Kursk campaign, the unit was transferred back to France and equipped with Jagdpanthers. After heavy losses in Normandy the unit was brought to full complement with Jagdpanthers in Grafenwöhr. During December 1944 the unit possessed 20 Jagdpanthers and three Panzer IV L/70 and took part in the Battle of the Bulge. During the end phase of the war (March 1945) the unit operated in the Remagen area." From Luftwaffe in Scale website.

Absolutely fantastic work on those tanks, Flyboy :D

I like how the cammo netting came out on the Sherman Firefly and the striking late-war camo on the Jagdpanther is excellent as well. Do you make your own decals for the numbering or use stencils?

One of these days, it would be great to see a tutorial from you (or something to that effect) as you definitely have a lot of skill and know-how to share :)

Outstanding work man! With your strips and his dots, you and Normandy are really putting the tiny pieces of paper techniques to great use!

Two more museum quality pieces!!
Alex, your work is always impressive and I am happy to have a custom Sherman of yours in my collection.
If your studying of chemical engineering has the same enthusiasm as your custom modeling, there will be
no stopping you! Well Done!!

i am not a ground guy (more a flyboy  ) but i must confess that this rusted paint on the Shermann is most impressive ! I really like the "old & dirty" look of it.

I saw one in a museum in France and the welding is exactly like this !

WELL DONE .... i ma always impressed when i see some work of art !

Thank you guys! Hopefully I'll be on the forums more regularly over the summer. I have quite a few projects lined up to build!
