This is the continuation of a project I started last year to convert a 21c XD 1:18 scale diecast M-113A2 into a proper Vietnam-era M-113A1. In March 2014, I removed the stowage, filled in the holes, sanded everything smooth, and repainted the vehicle. I was OK with those modifications, but it needed to go further. This past week, I revisited the model with the addition of Pickelhaube's turret shields plus a few more modifications to the vehicle. I think I've finally come close to a more-or-less accurate M-113A1. Its not as good as rschaap's recent custom project of an M-113A1 with the recoilless rifle, but I'm really happy with my own end results.
Here are some before and after pictures of the customization. Enjoy
How the M-113 looked from March 2014 until this week:
How the M-113 looks now with the new modifications:
I'm working on creating some custom decals so it has more accurate "US Army" stenciling on the sides (though there are numerous pictures of M-113s in Vietnam where that was removed or covered over, so it's not entirely inaccurate...) More weathering will likely come at some point. Also, I know the rear fenders are also not quite correct, but that may be a future modification
