1/18 Customs:B-25B -Finished, Sherman w/interior, Fuel truck

Post by B-29 » Tue Aug 14, 2012 8:03 pm

Seems like I haven't posted here in ages. Been busy preparing to leave for college tomorrow, so I figured I should post these before I leave. The B-25 is a heavily modified FSK B-25. I have added retractable landing gear, improved cockpit, and have converted it from a B-25J to a B-25B by adding the rear turret, filling in waist guns and nose guns, and adding the tail guns, or rather broomsticks. When it is finished, it will model Doolittle's B-25, the first to leave the Hornet, since I was lucky enough to have several of the raiders sign the wing. Originally I was going to finish it today, but the airbrush jammed and has to be cleaned. Now I will have to wait until I come back home on Christmas break to finish the Mitchell.

The Sherman was originally a normal FOV Sherman. At first, the project was just to add minor external details, (handles, removable tools, engine filter). It soon progressed into opening hatches, then engine bay, then a full interior. So, after about 3 years, I finally finished this "minor" project. Image

Fuel truck: wanted a realistic WWII fuel truck for my US aircraft. Found a reasonable Ford fuel truck and repainted it. I know the Army did buy 1940 Ford Trucks, so it is possible they bought a tanker, however I couldn't find any direct evidence of one in service.

Really great work there. I love that fuel truck - its the same as the one Jnewboy(Jon) did for me as a Luftwaffe fuel truck.

Nice work!...& have fun at College

Nice job on the Sherman. Is the engine scratchbuilt or did you modify one?

Thanks for the compliments guys. I'll have pictures of some other stuff I'm working on in December, such as a 1/18 Bell 47. Also, thought I would address the inevitable question on the P-39. It is gradually making progress, however I have earned a huge respect for Picklehaube's skills. Building models is one thing, building a moldable kit is a whole different game.

That B25 looks great 8)

I just picked up an old 1/48 Monogram "J" at a show last week-end
and I'm drooling at the thought of one of the HK 1/32nd scale kits.

1/18? Wow!

That is just awesome. As large as that is, I don't think 21st could have built one in 1/18.

Looks great. What did glue did you use? I ran out half way through mine and the glue I bought at the hobby store is melting the foam.

Thanks everyone. The glues I used were Super Gold CA glue for the smaller stuff, and epoxy for load bearing components. Otherwise normal CA glue ie super glue, will melt through foam be careful with paints and bondo as well. Certianly types will also melt foam.

Unfortunately no, the JU-88 is around 1/15 scale, the B-25 is more like 1/17 scale. Thanks, I've put a lot of work into the plane.
