Greetings all,

FINALLY after 5 years and 3 months of more off than on work, I got the Light Ghost Gray on the Tomcat. All the detailing I added really shows off now with some color on her. I'm very excited and happy to be at this stage of the game. Up next will be the FS 36320, Dark Ghost Gray applied to the forward fuselage section.
I'm hoping that the updates come on a more regular basis from here on out. Thanks again to everyone for your support and interest in this project.

Looks great and the added detailing shows what can be done with these models.
I've always liked the Ghost Gray camo on aircraft, update us when you can. :salute:

Greetings everyone,
Today was another huge step forward. The Dark Ghost Gray was applied to the forward sides of the fuselage. It's hard to see the difference between the bottom color, Light Ghost Gray and, the side color except at certain light and from a certain angel. Next step is to apply the top color, FS 35237 Medium Gray. Feeling excited about this build again now that it's starting to come to life. Thanks again to all who stay along for the journey.

That is just amazing how your paint and riveting changes everything compare to the original ...
Top work as usual Steve!

Greetings everyone,

First of all, Happy Father's Day to all the dads out there.
Another milestone was accomplished on Friday, the top color, FS 35237 Medium Gray, was applied to the Big Cat. To say that I'm happy would be an understatement. Finally after 6 years of more off than on work, the Tomcat is starting to come together. All the details that I meticulously added to the airframe are finally starting to shine. It was a TON OF WORK but, so worth it IMO.
There are a couple of very small areas that need some sanding, with 4000, before I can add some of the other colors before I gloss coat.
Thanks to all who are still following along, it's greatly appreciated. On to the pics, enjoy.

I guess I deserve that but, life and my health have taken their toll on my re-build. I will finish this project hopefully sooner than later. I have to finish it while I'm still physically able.

It looks just amazing, the indoor pics show the color differences very well.
No need to hurry perfection, this Tomcat will be finished when its ready.

That is a wonderful feeling, when all the work one puts into a project starts
to look like what was envisioned on day one.

Steve...I'll keep watching, its a hell of a show. Nice Work!! :salute:

Greetings everyone,
Small update for tonight, I masked off to spray the airbags on the Big Cat. Overkill I know but, at this stage of the game and after all this work I'd rather be safe than sorry. I'll spray these tomorrow along with other small areas this week. Small steps but, progress none the less.
Thanks to everyone who's still keeping a watch on this project.

Today's updates,
Had a very productive week so far on the Big Cat. I was able to get the over-wing fairing air bladders painted, the nozzle shrouds and, the forward fairings for the tails. I still have other smaller items that need painting before I can apply the gloss coat but, pretty happy with the progress so far. At least it's starting to look like something now.
Thanks to everyone who still keeps an eye on the project. Hope you enjoy the pics.

Greetings all,
Happy 4th of July.
Today's update consists of painting all the small details on the Big Cat prior to the gloss coat. I really enjoy this part because, next to the decal stage, this step starts to bring the aircraft to life. Enjoy the pics and thanks very much for looking in.

Steve

"TOMCATS FOREVER, BABY...!"

Arresting hook safety pin area and the fuel dump painted gloss red.
Image

Painted the air intake "face" to represent an opening in the body.
Image

Painted the gun gas exhaust ports black to simulate the openings.
Image

Painted the ventral fins face to represent the opening.
Image

Painted the gun bay gas purge system air intake faces to represent the openings. I've since touched them up, they look much better.
Image

At the rear of each ventral strake, there is an opening in the body ( don't know the proper nomenclature for this area ) and, this was painted black as well to simulate the opening.
Image

All the ECM blisters were painted as well.
Image

Image

Using my reference photos, I also painted any openings on the belly of the jet black to simulate the openings as well.

And finally, the Chaff / Flare buckets were painted.
