does the tail come off the 104 to expose the engine?

never held one myself, but I am seeing a line that could allow such.

The tail does come off the 104, but it is for packaging. There is no engine under there.

More cool repaints. I wish 21 st had issued the Mig in a scheme like yours. Two bare metal Migs was too many. Your Stuka is cool too. As for the pilots. Maybe you could paint the uniforms and coat a DAK color. Since it is very cold at night and in the mornings in the desert the crews may have needed coats. It is probably pretty cool at the higher elavations too.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I am going to incorporate the ideas on my DAK Stuka pilots sometime next week. I have to get back to my F-86, Avenger, and Fw-190D-9 this week.

I am going to shoot the Me-262A today and I will post up pics sometime tonight.

Here is the 262. This one was an easy repaint that I was able to do in 2 afternoons. The markings were simple and easy to work with as far as the vinyl cut stencils were concerned.

All the markings are paint with the exception of only the Swastika, which is a 21C decal. I wanted to do this scheme not because it was easy but because I like the simplistic & classic german look. Already having the green / brown camo version covered by 21C I decided that the green / gray one was in order.

Next 262 will be much more elaborate I suspect. Enjoy-

I have another 262A model that is begging for another paint scheme. I have 2 more in mind and it's just a matter of settling on which one. Whatever scheme I choose it will be very different from this one and the ones that the others have covered in 1:18.

That being said the next 262 will have to happen after some of my other 6 or so planes I have in the works right now. LOL

i've never seen a 1/18 262 in person, but that one makes me one to buy one and do some spraying and then hang it from the ceiling..or go for broke and get the 262B(which was my first jet model as a kid)

I had a free moment today at the office and I decided to post up another custom. Today I am proud to present my P-51D Mustang.

I knew for certain that I wanted to do an OD green plane as I am choking on all my natural metal stangs. I was drawn to this scheme mainly due to the colorful red and yellow rudder. I also really liked seeing a natural metal spinner on this scheme.

This plane started life as a tuskeegee P-51 as it does not suffer from the bent back prop blade issue found on earlier 21C mustangs. I also wanted to see more of used / chipped paint appearance. Got a little carried away on the fuselage, however I am still very pleased with the final result.

This scheme and it's markings were again the vinyl cut stencil method I have mentioned in all the other customs. I have been asked to elaborate on this process and I fully intend to do so (just need to take a few pics to demonstrate how I do this). Meanwhile- here is the P-51.

Wow, that's a great looking Mustang! I've never seen that paint scheme before in any of my books. What's the info on this particular plane (squadron, pilot, theater of operation, etc?). Very nice work.

for all these customs I have been using a variety of resources. I honestly have not spent too much time to double check the exact historical accuracy, though I would prefer them all to be. The mustang scheme I selected is interesting. I was drowning in my other customs that week and I asked a couple model guys I know to send me some od green schemes. When I saw it I was impressed. Things moved really quick and I had it done in no time. Now I am curious too. I have sent off my email hoping to get some info. I will let you know what I find out! It sure is a cool scheme!

I'd love to see a 1/18 A-36..IIRC the attack P-51 allison powered plane...I think it was the bombs on the D model that made me think of that one.

I'm currently working on airbrush technique before diving into any custom paint schemes.

TKO, So far all your customs look fantastic and you have done a great job with the vinyl stencils. I am eager to see your precedure for making these as i think it can be applied to 1/32 also.
