Post by pickelhaube » Sat Feb 09, 2008 9:27 am

I think that I have the pic loading almost down here are some of the parts of the plane.
Rear stab and landing gear strut. This was a Spitfire spinner and prop originaly. I drilled through the spinner put a plastic rod in it puttied bondo on it stuck it in a drill chuck and sanded to shape.

Looks like it's coming along nicely 8) I couldn't help but notice a "blast from the past" in the background of a couple of your pics...looks like VHS tapes stacked up there.. I finally rid myself of the last vestiges of those that I had recently, even managed to sell a few on ebay, but I guess there are still a lot around out there, heck I don't even own a player any more. :( Anyway, nice work so far on the Tony.

The wing is a Fw-190. The wings were cut reajusted to get the right rake airlerons re-made wing tips lengthend about 1-1/2" each tip. This was married to a Spitfire fuse. The nose was cut off diced a few times and put back on upside down. I almost have it ready to scribe panel lines. It looks like I have to smooth out the top of the cowling a little . It looks a tad bumpy. Right now it is at the sand and smooth stage . This process takes forever. If I were to do it all over again. I would have started from scratch. Because you have to re-do rather than do and it takes soooooo much more time. So far about 130 hrs spaning about 2 1/2 years.

Pickel, you have truly captured the look of this bird. Well done!

What paint scheme do you have in mind? I found this site with some huge and very nice images of various Hiens. (click on any of the images to the right of the screen)

Nice thread I have those pilots history but in Japanese. I am glad now that I can read about them. The one pilot with the blue stripe down the side is one of my favs. There is another one in one of my books that has a red tail red stripe and yellow fuel drop tanks with the green camo on natural alu. There is also the green shamrock on green.. I guess I just don't know wich one I want to to. They are all nice.

Thanks guys for all of the kind words. I will get back on it this weekend and post more pics.

Thanks Jackson.
I am going to make a few more kits of the P-36 then it will be back to this project. Half of the year is almost gone but I am keeping up with my new years resolution. :D
There has been a lot of positve feed back on this project and I am anxious to get back on it as well. If some of the big 3 would come through and do this one now will be the time before there is no turning back.

This has always been one of my favorites and I hope to do it justice.

Should I do another step by step or just post progress picks? See I welcome input I wish the big manufacturers would do the same. There would be a lot less disgruntlement.
