AH-64, Airbus A320, FFG -7 models built from Paper

Post by MiG29K » Mon Apr 24, 2006 8:18 pm

These Models go wayyyyyy back to about midway through first year college at U of MD in Germany and my time livin in Charleston South Carolina.... It has only been very recently that I started customizing extensively with plastics- So "Before there were plastics...there was Paper!" The bluebox toys F/A-18C being my first major project with customizing plastics NOT counting stock model kits I've done since I was little. All of the things I've learned about customization at this point came from my experiments with Paper. In a way, the Frigate (FFG-7 Perry Class) was done out of a dare. It tripped out the people in my dorm... A year later, when flying back to the States for Spring Break, I was looking out of the window of an Airbus A320 and kept staring at the wings. That inspired me to try and build a plane with working components...the rest is history. (Click the Center Mouse Wheel to move image Left and Right for better views!)

The AIRBUS A320 - All 200 something seats are inside...every window cut out (4.5mm x 3mm) Toilets, Galleys, Cockpit areas installed. The Flaps, Ailerons, Fowler Flaps, Leading edge surfaces, Tailplanes, are all functional - Landing gear is retractable. This is 100% manila folder or paper products

THE AH 64-D Apache. This project became both a side thing to do during summer quarter...and also a learing experience about the Helicopter itself. My primary reference was an '89 Janes Defense Encyclopedia. Yes it is ALL paper!

The 30MM gun on this bird is fully maneuverable and the rocket pods were 'drilled' out with a sewing needle...all 38 holes! The TADS/PNVS is movable.

OLIVER HAZARD PERRY CLASS FFG-7...The one that STARTED IT ALL...
This is built completely out of Children's Construction Paper and Elmers Glue... The MK13 Missile Launcher, Phalanx CIWS, 76mm OtoMelara Gun and Radars all move!

These last models are of Fantasy Attack Helicopters and a Russian Cruiser. These were done in during one Summer in South Carolina... Totally cooped up and bored off my ass... so I needed an outlet...

This next Helicopter was a Hybrid of the Mil 28 HAVOC and what Kamov would cook up. I even used a flexi straw end for some "Vector Thrust" capability - How silly that was, now that I look back.

and the Russian Cruiser... Yeah, had a Russian Obsession in High School haha!!!!

I got them fixed.

MIG, you lost a lot of respect from me with the Schumacher avatar, hehehehehhehe..... I like Kimi personally. How long have you followed F1? Personally it's been well over 10 years now for me. I lucked out and got to watch the show at Silverstone 6 years ago.

WOW Ski those ships your own work??? There beautifull :D

Glad you fixed the links :D

As for the avatar of MIGs being Schumacher, sorry though he IS the best. Has ben for a Loooong time, possibly even better than Senna.
Easily better that HILL (More that Car doing the job),Prost,Mansel (Both Prost & mansel were good though NOT BEST caliber drivers). Senna IS the late 20th century F1 God of drivers though i truely think M.Schumacher would have truely gave Senna a few worries.Shame we`ll really never know.

See us Brit`s don`t root for Brit`s All the time LOL. Both Hill & Mansel were flukes or technical Winners only, not on Driving skills. Cultard would be GREAT,IF he`d let go,he`s too restrictive on his talents :( ALways passing for the other team mates, nice though won`t get him his Glory.

I really like Jenson Button. Great attitude and a good driver to boot. I remember watching him quite a few times when he raced in F3's when I was stationed in the UK. Man how much I miss Snetterton!!!!!!

Oh, and steelbonnet, the ships are are card model kits you can get REALLY cheap. I take the booklets to the copiers and get them photocopied. I love kits that just keep on giving!! Right now I'm working on the USS Helena cruiser. It's coming`` along nicely...

Ski...

Post by MiG29K » Sun Apr 30, 2006 10:50 am

Hey Ski...

The Masts on the Frigate were black contruction paper too. The only thing not construction paper is the top white dome of the MK-15 Phalanx Close In Weapons System. It is made of a 5 mm piece of a Q-tip post. The individual ribs and spars of the masts are about 2-3 mm wide strips of construction paper. In fact, when I was flying out of Frankfurt to go back to the states, the customs guy actually squeezed the model because he did not know what it was made out of...I freaked and told him that it was paper. If you notice, the mast is kind of bent to the port side and the helicopter bay door is kind of bent out of shape. One pic has the SH-60 and through moving and so forth, it too suffered a lil damage. It's missing a blade and is also bent!!! During my paper building phase back in college, I built out of Corrugated Card board boxes, a fully field strippable and internally functional M16A1 - The bolt assembly and the hammer are functional (hammer is run by a little rubber band system and if you pull the charging handle back, it resets the hammer. When you pull the trigger, the hammer releases), an M-60 GPMG with deployable bipod, and and MP-5N. This was before airsoft and whatnot. I can post those if you want.
