1/32 scale diorama mats from Build-a-rama - Use for 1/18?

Post by Razor17019 » Sat Sep 12, 2009 4:28 am

This is the link to their page.
On there you will see a river, beach, winter 12" x 24" mats. This is setup for 1/32 scale, but has anyone tried to use them for 1/18 scale?
I really like the river mat to use for a Vietnam dio I am working on, but don't want to spend the money to find it does not look right with my 1/18 figures.
Let me hear what you guys think or know from experience.

Nice find Razor, they look like they'd work with 1:18th. The grass on the mats may be more in scale with 1:18th than 1:32nd.

Hmm, I dunno Razor... $60-$70 each, and that doesn't even include shipping...seems like an awful lot of coin for what you get, but it's no secret that BAR has been marketing their stuff more towards the King & Country and Conte crowd lately, so if they can afford $100 plus for 2 or 3 figures, then $70 for a dio mat is chump change... 8) If you do get one, let us know how you like it.

I just make my own stuff.

Water out of silicone.

I could do that in 1/18 twice the size almost for the same price. although the grass can be very tricky. :x

Razor, send a message to Build-A-Rama to see if they can take a comparison shot of one of the mats with an XD figure. Mark Vuncannon has been usually responsive to direct messages. Plus, it may expand his market for the mats.

MK, I sent Mark an email asking him for the comparison shot.
We shall see...

And yes, ostketten, 70.00 is large amount of money, but if it works and looks GREAT - it's worth it.
Hey, ostketten. can I borrow 70.00 bucks?

$70 is quite a lot, but at 24" by 12" and the fact that the grass seems large, the mat looks like it would work with 1:18 figures quite well. Even the water portion would work. If one has ever walked in a meadow or bog, there are little water channels and pools like that all over.
