Post by pickelhaube » Mon May 18, 2009 8:44 pm

Hey guys was there a tropical Spitfire made with clipped wings? I think I remember seeing one in US markings. Does anybody have any pics of one ?

Thanks

Would anbody want the larger trop filter for the Spit ?

I am not sure if a mod is worth doing for the wing tips.

All you have to do is cut the tip off. Throw a styreen dowl on it and sand to shape.

the larger filter is really the one you should make. That was the common one. The smaller aboukir filter was rare.

Agreed on the wing tips although they are slightly rounded in plan view...but would be an easy mod.

The hard part is getting a spitfire...

I think until we get a new 1/18th Spitfire this project should be put ho hold....I don't think too many of us are going to want and cut ours up.

I will not put any of my original ones under the knife. The one custom I did was on an Ebay damaged plane, and with great help from the members here it will be complete with a canopy in a week or so. Not all of us had the foresight to buy two of everything.

I'd happily mod a Spit to desert specs...

...if I could get my mitts on one for a reasonable sum.

You most likely will have to have someone cast you a whole new plane if you are waiting to see these at retail again.... from what I understand the molds for these were broken/destroyed which is a shame.
Is that you John Wayne, this is me!!

To tell you the truth I was thinking of casting the whole plane . With my mods. But it will be higher then what they are selling for on e-bay. But it will be a custom plane.

Any thoughts on this ?

I like the idea immensely. My wife, however, does not. :(
