Difficulty in registering?(A heads-up to the admin)

Post by Bar » Thu Jan 11, 2007 9:43 am

I have had two seperate e-mails from prospective members asking me if i can help them out with registering here. It's all on the up-and up, but at least those two guys(And maybe others), are having problems registering here.
The only reason they have contaced me is that i have my e-mail address in my sigline, and i sent them an e-mail link to an administrator i found in a post.
As i'm already registered here, i haven't had any difficulties, but has anyone else had any problems?
Just a heads-up in case there's an issue here.

I had one guy call me last week. He saw one of my advertisements and contacted me that way. Like you I forwarded it on to the admin. Not sure what the problem is.

I have had several people email me asking for help with registering.
I would love to know why there is a problem and how to fix it for them, but I don't know.

The last guy sent me a screen print when he tried to log in:

"Sorry, this username has already been taken"

He said:
"The problem is that I never get a form to pop up.
All I get when I click register is the page says Info and then sorry this user name has been taken. Problem is that I didn’t put in a user name. All I did was click on register. I really wonder if it’s a problem IE7. Can anyone try to enter a registration page using IE7 and see if it works for them?"

Our own Grunt1 that contacted me when he was having problems registering/login said:
"The first problem that we have is that once you register with a name, it is
locked. So if for some reason your registration doesn't work or if you
account ever breaks (you lose your password, your email address changes, whatever), you can't get your account back.

The other issue he will have is that it won't let him use the same e-mail
account for two board accounts. So he'll need to use a different e-mail
address too.

Now, as to why his first registration didn't work.. Not sure about that
but when I had problems the one that finally worked was when I filled out
every field on the form (location, website, etc..). Even if he fills
those with garbage he can change them later but I'd make sure to fill them out."

This is a problem that needs to be fixed, so we don't lose potential good members. Board Admins please check.
Non-members trying to become a member take a look and possible you are having the same problems.

Well, as i say, it's just in case there's any issue the admin is not aware of.

So far little response and no action, sad to say..

Six months and counting..
Sorry to quote myself from another thread, but as well as we may like him as a person P-51 has clearly moved on to other interests..

Wouldn't be an issue if he would enable someone, heck... anyone.. else to work on these things..

There are several trustworthy and capable board members that can do it.

Ok, this guy that has e-mailed me has been back in touch.
I offered to log-out and try and register for him myself(With all his details, of course, so he would get a confirmation e-mail).
When i logged out of my own account, i clicked the REGISTER tab next to FORUM HOME at the top of the page. All it did was take me to a page that said THIS USERNAME HAS ALREADY BEEN TAKEN...
I tried it several times.
There is definitely something wrong.
I got logged back into my own account ok, but the registration part is damaged somehow.

One small piece of progress. If i log out now, i can get as far as the "I am over 13 years of age" link, but when i click it, it merely says "this username has been taken" again...
I have been contacted by three seperate people in the last week or so.
We are losing possible new members here.
There is definitely a problem with the registration process.

I've found that the system will not allow duplicate e-mail addresses or account names.

What are the account names they are trying to register with?

The system isn't allowing anyone to even get to the registration page!
Try it for yourself.
Log-out, and see if you can register again. It doesn't even let you get as far as the page where you enter your username choice, or e-mail address...
I have tried several times(Not to actually re-register, but just to see if i can).
It's a real conundrum...

I just tested this from my computer, another computer, and three other people's computers (who have never been to GPXD) and it works. Perhaps go to the registration page and hit CTRL-F5 (manual refresh). You may have the old registration cached.

And it was confirmed working by a phpBB expert. So, case closed. If there is anymore trouble, you can PM me... but at this point it's not the site.
