New "Members"

Post by snake » Fri Apr 03, 2009 9:24 pm

Hey,
I am a new member here.I was just looking at the forum member list to see who was local.
Everything looked fine until about Jan 20/09After that, page after page of suspicious looking addresses, and no posts whatsoever.
Checked out a couple of websites, and lo and behold, porn, viagra etc.
What happened, that all of a sudden, this site has gone from true enthusiasts,to 99% new members are spam,or worse.
Can we not get rid of these fakes. Not trying to be a prude, but if all you contribute is porn, you should not be a member.
How do we "Take out the Trash?"

It gets done periodically by the forum administrators.

It's been like this since the board started. It used to be they could also activate their account and start posting spam, at least I've been able to stop that so all they can do is register and nothing more. So overall, having a bunch of fake members (which I purge every two months) is a million times better than spam messages throughout the forum.

Also, moving this to the correct forum.

Hello to all, I'm a newbee here so best to introduce my self, Name in John, I'm located near Edwards AFB, Been collecting 1/72, 1/32 aircraft for about 3 years and just started 1/144 and 1/48 scales. I collect Corgi mostly but have ventured to Hobby Master 4 times and Century wings twice. Other than that, just here to chat, discuss, get info, meet others and educate myself. Thanks for the opportunity

Just don't laugh to bad I am rather new to customizing :D But have been collecting 1/18th scale since about 2004 I have really been bumping up my collection on ebay here lately. I don't know that it is possible to keep anyone from registering with a forum.
But the spamming at this site is very minimal at most and I can't remember when I have come across any at all.
That is thanks to the moderators and the members who report it.
The 1/285 pfc-cinc forum was overrun with spam for a time although they seem to have cleaned that up. I can't tell you how bad it was.
Spammers take advantage of any perceived opportunity. I'm glad that this site has 'eliminated' the problem.

This is kinda old news now, and not really a problem as much anymore... so I'm going to go ahead and lock it...
