Makes sense to me cutting tanks and MPs but I don't understand reducing the infantry battalions though.

except it doesn't make sense in that the Marines will still need tanks for fire support if they ever actually do amphibious assaults on Chinese controlled islands. Removing tanks and a few artillery battalions is not a good thing and imho will come back and bite them in the ass
