I read the book Spearhead and highly recommend it. Glad he was finally given the Bronze star.

I recall the Panther commander hesitated. Fatal mistake. Possibly because the Pershing was new to the theater and he might not have identified it immediately as hostile. It certainly didn't look like a Sherman or Churchill.

If i remember correctly from the book that is exactly why. The commander of the panther thought it was a german tank. The book also follows one of the panther crew that smoyer met
