No way is that possible... The professor needs to look into a thing called overspeed and what happens to aircraft components when an airframe starts exceeding Vne. Getting a Boeing 777 to enter the water vertically, whilst descending from cruising altitude of ~FL330 -FL380, is going to imply a large increase in velocity during the transition from level to vertical. The 777 would reach overspeed and start breaking apart in the air, making a HUGE debris field. Poor science on the part of this professor.

I believe the plane is intact and somewhere in Pakistan.
