Re: new Russian Armata tank
Recently wasn't there an article about a Russian tank that had over run its budget? was this the tank?

You have a good memory. I posted about the Armata being too expensive in February and forgot about it.

Re: new Russian Armata tank
Russia has always been paranoid and insecure. Putin wants to modernize the Russian military. Whether it is this tank or the proposed super carrier, Russia is just not a world power. Russia's foreign policy is really dedicated to its neighbors and former Soviet territories. In the long haul, Russia just does not have the ability to finance or afford the costs of a world power class military. Look how many naval vessels (subs and carriers) they sold to other countries. Look at the mighty Russian tanks which were decimated by the Abrams and the British Challenger. If Russia is serious about modernizing its military it should study its own history. It should look to the collapse of the Soviet Union, which was essentially bankrupted by trying to keep up with the US.

It is hilarious that the sputniknews article sated this:

Now I am no ballistics expert, but short of something like a C-RAM mounted to the back of that tank, there is no machine gun that is going to stop a maverick or a hellfire...To defend against incoming anti-tank missiles, the T-14 will have a 12.5 mm turret-mounted heavy machine gun,[...]

Let's see if they actually build it and if they do, how many...

Re: new Russian Armata tank
Good lord the Fox News video in that link nearly gave me a concussion I smacked my head so hard....
That guest/panelist, I think his name was Gen(Ret.) Keane, spent all that time blathering about this new tank and the imminent doom implied by its presence, and really didn't take a moment to pause and think about what he was really saying. The Russians are increasing their expenditure on defense by 30% and the U.S. is "going the opposite direction"; well it's a good thing we still spend more than the next 27 or so countries combined on defense(not exact stat, just making a point). And the host saying sh*t like some experts say the Armata is better than the west. What an empty and unsubstantiated claim meant to do nothing but stir up uninformed viewers for no damn reason. Where are the experts saying this tank is better? Where are your sources? Sounds like B.S. to me. Oh General Keane, we don't have any tanks in Europe anymore? Well, I would love to watch the T-14 get stomped by one of the thousand or so German Leopard 2s, French LeClercs, or Brit Challenger IIs if Putin did decide to pull something over-the-top.
It's coverage like this that makes me disregard Fox as a legitimate news source. They "over-cover" things like this to drum up controversy and fear-mongering, while doing little to contribute to legitimate discourse. And on the the other side of the spectrum we have the channels that would rather air stories about Kim Kardashian's butt than meaningful occurrences world-wide. Lose-lose situation IMO. I'll get my news elsewhere thank you.
-Kevin
P.S. and this was no knock against you Dragon53, just making a point about how mind-numbingly dumb news coverage on this story is, and just how frustrating it is to know that many millions of people that don't know better are eating it up.

Re: new Russian Armata tank
"Armata tank will survive any attack from U.S. weapons"
...right, sure it would.
Methinks the AM-65K Maverick would have a thing or two to say about that claim, not to mention many other U.S. weapon systems.
The Russian media has been consuming too much vodka to be very believable these days.
That article is pure garbage, I regret wasting the time reading it.
