The National Museum of the US Army has been a dream at Fort Belviour since at least 2007. When I was there in 2007 they I was shown the proposed site off of I-95. Then a few years later it was going to move to Meade, then in june 2011 it was back at Belvoir with an official opening date of June 17, 2015.

There is also a movement to raid the best artifacts out of other army museums to make up the collection at the NMUSA. The FT17 and Liberty tank at Meade are one of the rareset items around, and the NMUSA wants them (so does the National Museum of Armor and Cavalry).

They are also planning lots of inovations not seen in other museums.

The one year delay is interesting. I work on construction for the Government, and something this big isn't going to go as planned. Hell, we can't get a bathroom at a parade field right.

The Army Museums are great across the country. Too bad the big plan is to close many down or reduce them to nothing or little self guided tours run by 1 person. A fine example of people at the top who have no idea how to run things. More people out of work and less education about the things that really made this nation great. Sounds about right these days.
