Collings Foundation B-24 - New Livery

Post by vulgarvulture » Wed Jan 19, 2005 1:33 pm

I highly recommend seeing (or better yet, catching a ride in) the Collings Foundation B-24 (and B-17) when they tour around the States each summer visiting local airports. There are a lot of tour stops, so there's bound to be one at an airport near you.

For those who don't know, this B-24 is the only flying B-24 around. It's now getting a new paint job in the markings of 'Witchcraft' of the 467th BG, 790 BS (8th Air Force...I'm sure Ski will be happy).

It should look sharp!! I gotta see it this year. It was only on my trip to the UK back in September that I finally got to see a B-24 in person. Well actually, I got to see two of them. First was the B-24M at Duxford and the Collin's Foundation B-24's sister J model at Cosford. Thank the Indian Air Force for keeping their Liberators around long enough for us to enjoy them!

Interesting! Hope it makes a stop here in SoCal again. I saw it last year as she came into the airport. Unfortunatly, I had an airshow that weekend and was not able to go see her and the B-17. But, I just happened (total luck) to be walking out of the photo store with the 75-300mm lens on my camera that I had rented for the airshow RIGHT as it came over on landing approach. The photo place is right next to the airport. Talk about a luck!

Saw those planes a few years ago when they stopped over in Fresno. The B-24 was in the "All American" guise at the time. I crawled around through both planes, finding the B-24 to be a far more convoluted and disorganized ship than its compartmentalized B-17 sister. The best part was getting to see the B-24 take off and fly!

I saw these two planes at the Florence,SC show last year.If anyone has the chance this is a great show. They had a whole area set up with re-enactments.Germans,British,Russians and Americans. They had a whole field hospital erected.Lots of other WWII planes, weapons and vehicles.

I too have been through both of the planes when they stopped at a local airport here years ago.what i find amazing is the B-17 looks so huge from the outside. But once inside it is very cramped.

So, is she repainted?

She will be at Love Field, Dallas on 4/4-4/6.

I just got word that B-17 "Libery Belle" will be in Dallas today around 2pm. (ADS)

Does anyone know what exactly will be on display at the show in LONG BEACH? Is there an entrance fee?

Usually it's just the B-17 and B-24... but if there are other warbirds at the airport, they will probably be parked nearby. I believe there is a small admission price, I forget how much now. I think either $5 or under. But it's been 3 years since I've seen them at John Wayne Airport.

I've had a B-17 buzzing around all day. Pretty cool, I keep running outside like a little kid. The Collings Foundation is in the SF Bay Area this weekend at old Moffett Field.
Not sure if I'm going to make it theres an IPMS show for me to blow some on this weekend. Nice weather, warbirds, baseball and a model show seems like its going to be a good weekend. :D
