Pickelhaube's fantastic and very accurate SDK-222 kit is quite a bit superior:

I'll admit I'm not nearly as skilled of a model builder as several other members are on this forum that also tackled Pickelhaube's kit, but I do have a better SDK-222 model than what that seller is offering

It was over $200 for the kit, but one has to take into account the labor on Pickelhaube's part in making the moulds, the cost of the resin, pouring the parts, etc. I think he also offered a painted, pre-built version as well.

I got just the basic kit and it was a great modeling experience that required some skill. Other members have really made even better models using this kit than I have. But in the end, I was pleased with my results and I've been a fan of Pickelhaube's work ever since!

At first glance it does not look too bad.

But under scrutiny , GLARING inaccuracies abound.

The most is the squarish gun cover and the mantlet is way small.

The wheels are round but that is the only thing that they have gpoing for them.

I like how he used a T-34 wheel for the rear idler .

But again at first glance not too bad.

Is that my T-34 wheel ?

Why does that Hetzer look nearly as big as the Panther? Should be a bit smaller...

Its not as bad as some of this builder's other work - and looks a bit more accurate than my 1:6 scale DeSimone Hetzer, but still, no.

About all I can say is it looks better than his other builds; maybe it was the most recent and benefited from what he learned from the others.

Still would not touch it with a pole of any length.

1/18 Ultimate CUSTOM German soldier Ferdinand Tank 21st Century Toys Panzer
Item condition:Used
Price:US $300.00 Buy It Now
Shipping: $13.00 Economy Shipping
Item location:
Safety Harbor, Florida, United States
PayPal only
This is a Custom made Ferdinand tank. This tank was made to fit ultimate soldier 4" figures. The tank is not a precise replica because of the difficulty of building the correct wheels, tracks and some other accessories.Because of the size of the tracks and wheels used, the tank came more close to being 1/19 scale.Still the tanks dimension(minus barrel)came out 1/2" taller and 1" longer than the 21st century toys tiger tank.
The tank has 3 opening crew man hatches and 1 escape/ammo loading hatch. The main gun elevates and the tracks roll..The interior has been painted in white and has a floor so figures will not get lost inside the tank. The tank is fully build of plastic (no wood or paper parts) the color is similar to the eastern front panzer IV from 21st century. This color was chosen from the Ferdinands that participated in the largest tank battle in history(Kursk,Russia)
There was a lot of hours spend building this tank and the Ferdinand won't be made by any toy manufacturer.

THERE ARE NO FIGURES INCLUDED!!.

This figures where used for reference of size and scale, but will not be included as this are from my personal collection.
Tank is in good condition. Shipping is $13.00 flat rate including tracking in the U.S. and international shipping by USPS Priority mail is $55.00 and it will include tracking

Re: 1/18 German SdKfz 222, Sdkfz 8 (88) & Hetzer tank (Eba

Post by TankAce » Tue Feb 12, 2013 6:23 pm

I bought from him a few vehicles and i must say the vehicles are not that bad. They are just not accurate, some of them more than others. Also the scale is not correct on some of his builds.
He builds them with plastic.I am sure is not styrene. The vehicles feel heavy like a 21st century toy but surprisingly they are not fragile. With everything being hand built and painted i feel i got my money worth. But than again they are not historical correct.
I have bought kits from pickelhaube and i like them because they are dead accurate. The price is good because it can be use as a collectors item and once you put it together and paint it they are worth even more.I never seen anyone on ebay selling a already built kit from pickelhaube,so i figured out no one want to sell there priced one of a kind possession. The only thing i have seen on ebay fully build was the Horten that pickelhaube put together himself and it went for high buck(i think $750)some one correct me if i was wrong about the price.
What i don't get is why this seller does not go the extra mile to get the exact scale and accuracy to get way more.
For instance i feel that if the Hetzer was smaller he will get way more than what he is asking. :?

That's my thing: as much as I would like to have certain vehicles in the scale I collect, I am not hard up enough for them to buy inaccurate pieces. I would rather wait, go without, or learn to do it myself.

I know there are inaccuracies in what 21C, FOV, Hasegawa, Revell, etc. have produced but they come close enough to fool most people. This guy's stuff does not come close enough for my liking.

You know, it looks like practice is making perfect for this guy as they do seem to be getting a bit better each time.

He doesn't seem to be any competition for pickel, but if he keeps to relatively basic shapes and gets really good at a few he could be a new source of models for you 1:18 German guys. Needs to step it up as notch or two.

TankAce, you say you've purchased a couple; does he build them from the ground up or is he modifying an exacting toy/model into what he sells? If he is modding, I can understand some of the scale and accuracy issues but if he makes everything himself I'd think some things would be more accurate. Then again I value accuracy over representation so I personally still bordering too much on the toy-like for my taste, although I only have these photos to judge from. That being said...

I mainly collect 1/32, but I did get a Panther and Tiger real cheap along with a bunch of the $1 troops during the End Times. If I had the space and money to burn, I would gladly hand over to pickel everything required to have one of every German item he has produced thus far (I envy all you Horten owners as I don't even get one in 1/32!)...based only on the photos he has posted here. . I would even step outside my realm of interest for an A-10 just because he made it and because it is an A-10 after all so how could you not if you could, right? Obviously pickel's are more $$ but we know he does put in the work, and I've heard no complaints.

I think, though, this guy could get somewhere with this if he can just figure out how to fine-tune what he's got so far.

The 222 and the Hetzer where build from the ground up and the tracks roll just as good like a 21st century panther or tiger. The tracks are rubber and the color has no weather so it blends really well when is on a bookshelf next to the 21st century toys tanks. On the other hand the Puma was built using a elite force 8x8 troop carrier lower chassis. The good thing is that it looks really good when you look under because it has the control arms on all wheels and the two steering bars on the front wheels. He add upon request opening hatches on the puma two engine deck hatches that really open.He didn't charge me extra and he offer to paint it if i prefer another color.I also notice that some of his work he keeps lowering the price until it sells.
The Hetzer i bought measures exactly 12" long x 6 1/4" wide x 5 1/2" tall. pretty similar dimensions to a 21st century panzer IV. Of course the Hetzer would be smaller than a panzer IV but i wanted a Hetzer so badly that i could not resist getting this to temporary fill a empty gap on my panzer divisions at least until a real accurate Hetzer kit is available.

I wrote to the seller to let him know about the size of the Hetzer and he has improved the Hetzer.
His latest Hetzer on ebay has 10 1/2" long x 4 1/2" tall x 5 1/2" wide.
He took better pictures in different angles next to a 21st century toys tiger tank.
It is still not perfect, but is getting better.
