New Axis and Allies Sets ?

Post by krieglok » Thu Nov 01, 2007 6:07 pm

I saw an ad in the latest WW2 magazine and they have a new series of A&A called "1939-1945" or something like that. I was thinking the pieces may be repaints of earlier miniatures. Anybody have any intell on these yet?

I was also looking to build a 3D battle map(grid) for the A&A. I recall some one made one. I was wondering what the specs might be for the lay out. Thanks.

Repaints and Re Spec of 1st edition.

I bought a bunch of this stuff (Not this set, when it first came out) and felt ripped off, but I do have to say this one piques my interest:

Axis & Allies Miniatures North Africa 1940 – 1943

The figs are the same, but the vehicles are now all supposed to be larger and all in the same scale - 15mm (whatever scale that is).

The "new" set is a collection of pieces from the first three sets but with larger vehicles. The new maps have 3" hexes and are very low quality. It's like A&A Minis Greatest Hits. Some of the vehicles have had some minor changes with their stats.

Valentine 17pts add Robust SA
Firefly Now Canadian 27pts add AP Rounds SA
IS-II 61pts
SU-85 22pts
T-26 Now Russian lose Unreliable SA
Hellcat 24pts lose Flanking Attack SA add Strike and Fade 1 SA
Pershing 60pts
M5 Halftrack 7pts
Jagdpanther 39pts
King Tiger 62pts
SdKfz 6pts
Pnzr IV 22pts
Tiger I 56pts

Apply the above changes to your sets and save money. Also Contested Skies (set III) had an ME-109 w/brown and green camo and was sold as a Spitfire - the "new" set has a REAL Spitfire - the only piece worth buying.

I done with any further purchases of this game. After spending $2000 and then the scale change. I'm done.

Here's the links for the 3D maps that I made. They are modular and can be rearranged to make any of the maps that Wizards ever put out. This is set up from a Guadalcanal scenario that was posted on their site.

I'll have to admit that I gave into "the dark side" and bought the new 1939-1945 starter set just for the maps and was truly amazed at the new vehicles in it - Pnzr III, Cromwell, T-34/76, and Sherman. The only thing I didn't like about the Sherman was that it had a star on ONE side of the turret. Maybe a Steelers fan painted that one?

Hi,

First, I'm new to posting here, but over the years have lurked.

Second, I collect various scales, and recently discovered the appeal of the 1:32 scale. But I'm a huge fan of the original A&A boardgame and love the miniatures.

The 1939-1945 Axis and Allies miniature expansion includes both new sculpts and repaints of old pieces. The game stats for the majority of the pieces I've pulled out of packs seem to be the same. However, a few pieces seem to have new stats / names.

Some previously rare pieces are now uncommon or common, and my general impression is that this booster set is designed to really give you FUNCTIONAL armies ... in other words, the M1 Garand and other staples of a US force are found in abundance of this set.

The vehicles (tanks and armored cars) are much larger now ... in fact, they seem roughly in scale with the soldiers. I've not really pulled any traditional artillery pieces, but I'm not at all concerned about that.

If you're going to buy any of the A&A Minis, buy them by the case. There are 24 Rares to collect.

A case will give you 2 of each common such as the Mosin-Nagant rifleman and the Arisaka rifleman, 1 of each uncommon piece such as the Sdkfz 251 or the T-34/76, and 12 of the 24 rares. A case makes it about $1.25 per piece.

Welcome to the boards, MCalamari.
