Greetings:

Just a few more comments.

I think limiting the size of the dioramas is going to be tough. Some of our stuff even in model form is quite impressive, and to say there is a limit in size will really cut down on some people's ideas to make a scene. I don't think a diorama should take up someone's entire yard, but maybe say as big as a tabletop and that's as big as it gets. Defintely something to think about.

In regards to using photoshop, I think it would be acceptable to use it say if you wanted to edit out your kid's swing set or some other unsightly feature that can get in the way of a diorama (like my well cap for instance). I think anything else though should be frowned upon.

mmmm, maybe our approach is wrong. Considering this is a Dio contest (right?), maybe we should score each entry against what constitutes a diorama.
So basically people can enter whatever they wish but entries MUST tell a story (represent a "snapshot" of a particular event). So simply standing a fig next to a plane on a sidewalk "runway" or placing a tank in a sandpit will be viewed as a low score. Figures/vehicles must be posed/sculpted in a way which realistically portrays a "freeze frame" of something happening - whether it be a full on battle scene or something as mundane as two guys working on a tank's engine. Viewers should easily be able to piece together what has just happened before the "scene", and what is about to happen.
So basically we could say:
The models must be in context and the scene should display some sense of activity.

As for photoshopping...........My two cents worth is no photo retouching allowed. I think people can effectively capture their dio without the need to disguise anything. I only say this because it might get a bit hairy in terms of what is and isnt allowed (no offense coreyeagle :) ). But yeah, up to the judges ultimately.

photoshop stuff

Post by Coreyeagle48 » Sun Jul 08, 2007 11:06 pm

Jay,

I agree with you on the dioramas telling a story. I like that idea a lot! I think simply putting a figure next to a plane for example does not constitute a diorama because basically anyone can do that just by taking their plane out of the box and putting the pilot next to it. LOL. It would be great if we could see some great stories and displays out of these dioramas.

No offense on the photoshop comment Jay, in fact, I am leaning more toward your idea now of no photoshopped photos for exactly the idea you suggested. It will be one of those gray areas and it would be tough to determine what is legal and what is not legal.

My well cap could always be a fuel tank. :) Maybe this is an excuse to chop down that rusted swing set that is looking sorry for itself LOL

OKAY then NO photoshopping at all! Also I don't think there should be a size limit just keep it reasonable. And yes the diorama has to tell a story. No, I don't know when lightning is back but he is just going fishing so it should not be long, but as soon as he gets back we should be able to get this going. I'd say we have a month deadline wadda ya'll think aboot that?
Good to see that your in on this panzer M. SOunds like your doing an Ardennes diorama am I right?

Looking at something Fall/Winter 1944/45

got some stuff already planned,

The center piece will be the Konigtiger, with a Sdkfz. 250/1 and troops.

Don't know if i am going to a Post-combat, during action or what for the basis of the shot.

Need to go find some DML Amis to paint up for this. and hit up verlinden for what they have for buildings.

okay just to let everyone know I will be traveling to the States from now until the 19 so you will have to organize this without me. Don't cry too hard "I WILL be back!" lol. And this is to lightning:

Please be a judge!! We need you!!
No pressure :D

Hi All,
So has anything been decided regarding the contest or how many people are truly interested in participating?

starting the planning of mine right now.

looking for figures and thinking of what buildings/material and vehicles and weapons to use.

all I am saying for now is the main theme is Winter '44 and a German advance/attack on either the 29th or 30th US Infantry Division elements.

Germans are Jägers(Light Infantrie), Fallschimjägers, and Luftwaffe(Flak crew for a 2cm FlaK 38)

Also going to have a Sdkfz.250/1, Sdkfz.2, PzKw VI ausf. B, for the germans

for the Americans, small staff HQ, AT gun, jeep, M8 A/C, fighting, surrendered and KIA/WIA G.I.s

I think we should set this up for Oct-Dec 2007

Some of us go beyond playing in dirt and grass.

building and painting takes time, thankfully I am reusing and trading stuff to speed it up a bit..but I need to find a base plate sometime, and then get dirt/snow and a stone street started.
