1:32 scale M35 Cargo Truck

Post by Ziegler2112 » Mon Nov 22, 2004 3:14 pm

Is there a company that produces a 1:32 scale M35 Cargo Truck? I would think FOV would as they are still being used in Iraq and around the world for that matter.

The Monogram truck, sold as a M35, was actually an M34. The big difference was that the M35 had dual rear wheels while the M34, which is represented by the Monogram model, has single rear wheels. The M34 was actually developed from the M35. The idea of the single rear wheel is that the truck would have better off road traction since there was no need for the second set of tires to cut a "trail" in the soil/snow/mud. I figure the truck produced by Monogram was an early Reo or Kaiser (pre-Viet Nam era) with the gas engine (Continental R6602) since there is no exhaust stack up behind the cab and the single small round mirror instead of the larger dual mirrors now used.

The Monogram M34 was close to 1/35 scale (as are many of the old Monograms) versus true 1/32nd. Unfortunately the previously mentioned Minichamps GMC will join a large group of 1/35th models of GMC's that are more detailed and more accurate than anything Minichamps has ever produced. If you don't mind putting them together they are a lot cheaper. In 1/35th there are WW2 CCKW GMC's from Heller, Italeri and Tamiya (the best one). The M35A2 has been done in 1/35th plastic by AFV Club. It's kind of pricey, but is regarded as a good kit.

It would be nice to see a good M35A2 in 1/32nd. With slight differences it could be used for VietNam or Gulf War collection. Other versions could be marketed as gun trucks (VietNam convoy escorts) or even as civilian firetrucks.

Of course it would be WONDERFUL to have a WW2 CCKW in true 1/32nd to go with the FoV or 21C stuff. The King and Country CCKW is a great model but is expensive and is actually close to 1/30 scale.

New battle cry - enough Tiger tanks! More trucks!
