amazing coincidence....just moments ago I was checking to see if it had been released yet. Looks much better than the old Revell kit of the 1960's.

I see the new kit didn't include the Kennedy and gunner figures from the original kit, but it does include the 37mm cannon and what appear to be depth charges.

yes depth charges on the bow, proper 37mm at gun and a partially detailed interior, which I don't think was on the original kit?

I had the original kit when it was released around 1963. It had several figures including Kennedy wearing a cap, a gunner (waist-up only) and I think a gunner for the 20mm cannon. There were no depth charges, 37mm cannon, interior detail or instruments on the control panel. It also had wood plank seams on the deck (which is inaccurate), if I remember correctly, and it was molded in olive green.
I bought another original Revell kit a few years ago along with the Italeri 1/35 PT 109 and crew figures. All are gathering dust in the boxes.
The review for the Italeri kit said there are no known photos of the real PT 109 with the mast up, and I noticed the photos of the new Revell PT 109 has the mast down. It also has the accurate smooth deck (no plank seams) and what appears to be a decal on the control panel. I wonder if the new Revell kit is olive green or maybe grey.

I have built several of the old (1963) PT-109's and have one on my bench right now. The improvement in the details are great. I see that there are no ammo belts for the .50's and the guns themselves appear to be much better detailed as is the 20mm aft. The 37mm AT gun on the bow is a nice addition as well. This looks to be a much better value for the money. I will pick up a couple of these kits!
