Looks like a Shiden Kai to me. I like the pilot, good job painting him.

I thought the same thing.

Whichever, I see the usual stellar work. I always hated when you do a bunch of interior detail, or like that engine, only to close the fuselage halves and realize it's never going to be seen again. :?

my bad you guys are right. It's the Shinden Kai somehow I mixed it up with the Ki-84 that I also have in my stash

I also want to have the option to display the engine if I want to.

Excellent work cnq.
cnq, you build and paint a lot of models. What color paint would you recommend for Vietnam era US Marines? I just can't find the right shade of green for their fatigues.. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks ketelone.

Although I've built quite a few models I've only used Tamiya acrylic for airbrushing and Vallejo acrylic for hand brush. Tamiya doesn't have the color paint for VN era US Marines (planes or figures) so I ended up doing custom mixing to achieve the desire color and it was quite difficult to do.Vallejo has some color paint for US marines and. I would highly recommended it I think Model Master has the complete color paint for VN era US stuff...Your best bet is to google the internet for it...

Another great addition to your scale museum. Looks like it's seen a lot of use. Better ground that pilot and save him for the invasion of the Homeland which (spoiler alert!) isn't going to happen. Otherwise his luck may run out soon and he might stumble into some roving Hellcats, Corsairs or even some Iwo Jima Mustangs. How did you do the distressing and weathering on the sides of the fuselage where the paint looks like you actually rubbed it off to get to the aluminum?

Either chipping fluid or hairspray method, I imagine.

Thanks guys.

The "chipping effect" was done by peeling out the skin using sticky tape combined with using sponge technique. I've not tried the "hair spray" method yet but will do in the future.
