My WW2 Chinese Nationalist Air Force

Post by Epap » Sun Sep 20, 2015 3:52 am

I just received one of those Oxford rehashes of an Atlas Editions I-16 in Chinese Nationalist colors and gave it my usual upgrade---adding a pilot, lightening the underside, painting the rear of the prop blades black, plugging the screw holes, etc. I don't like the green the factory used, but I left it alone. Here's how it looks now:Image

So I thought that a few members might be interested in some of the other planes that the Nationalists employed---they used planes from Italy, Germany, Great Britain, Russia and the U.S., mainly. Here is a trio of 1:72nd scale Polikarpovs---the Oxford I-16, another I-16 via Model power and an I-153 from the DeAgostini line---the last two being code 3s. Note to AF: I decided that you were right and added the Nationalist markings to the upper wings of the last two birds, below:Image

Four More, also in 1:72nd---a P-26 from Model Power, a Curtiss Hawk from Altaya, a HS-123 from Oxford/Atlas and an I-152 from DeAgostini---all code 3s:Image

Of course there was the AVG. Here's my namesake--Pappy B.--sitting in the cockpit of his C1 P-40B:Image

That's a spiffy collection Epap. Sone nice unusual items. Is the SB-2 a prebuilt or a kit you made?

I thought the Model Power P-26 was much larger than 1/72? I bought an Amercom one that i plan to make into a Phillippine Air Force P-26.
i never met an airplane i didn't like...

Thanks, AF. The Model Power P-26 is, actually, a fair bit larger than 1:72nd---but close enough. The SB-2 is a solid resin casting from molds I commissioned 15-20 years ago. Many of the same molds were left with an outfit in Texas called The Collector's Airmodel Co. and they used to make and sell custom replicas from them for a fairly hefty price. If you're curious, check out the site, though the last time I looked I couldn't connect to the section called "WW2 Expert Class" models, which is where my molds were located. They may have stopped making such models or the molds may have worn out.
