Wings of the Great War 1/72 planes

Post by aferguson » Wed Dec 03, 2014 4:51 pm

i see these are out now. From pics, i'm not too impressed. The rigging looks like bungee cords....would have been better if they left it off. For the price of about $40 i'm not too impressed. The $17 Amercoms look as good (if not better).

Greetings

They really look like crap. The painting looks like a child did it and the rigging is just a disaster.

Really a shame given they are being marketed as exclusive collectibles and limited editions. What a mess.

My Hobbytown USA store had some of these in stock. Quite frankly the Americom planes are better - and those are diecast.

Looks a little like the Model Power models. Change in design packaging. Looks a little clunky.

Eh, I'll stick with the 144 scale Wings of Glory models.

This is the worst "high dollar" models I think I've ever seen, I'm surprised the Mule is even selling these...

More in this series coming in April. Now they're making more interesting stuff...........i hope the quality is much better than the first batch but i'm not holding my breath, look to have the same bungee chords for rigging.

this series is continuing to pump out new models, so they must be selling well, despite their drawbacks. I've been tempted many times but so far have just bought one, the W29, which has no rigging.

I may get another and see how hard it is to remove the rigging. It would be a fairly simple matter to re-do it if I can get the old rigging of without damage.

Rigging a 72nd scale WWI biplane is a bit of a challenge, but it isn't anything impossible to do. These WofGW models are just too expensive for me to buy.

I like building my own rather than spending $40 plus for these.

Hey, PM. I agree. I looked at both the WGW and Americom planes before I delved into the 1/72 prebuilt WW1 planes. I received some great advice from the plane guys at the Warbird collectors site, I went with Americom. They are definitely much, much better. The WGW planes have flashy paint schemes but their details are clunky and do not stand up well to close inspection.

I have a number of WW1 1/72 plane kits to build. I had some eye surgery which worked out really well, so now I can tackle the smaller stuff once again! Rigging them will be a challenge with my sausage fingers though....lol
