What scale/brand do you collect?

Post by Windspruce » Thu Nov 11, 2004 9:08 am

Just curious as to what scale and brand people collect?

I have 1/72 Dragon armor and 1/50 Corgi armor.

Almost forgot my 1/72 CDC Armour which is no longer produced.

In the 1:32 and below scales, the vast majority of my collection is 21st Century 32x (and Cold Steel) Armor, Aircraft, Figures, and Buildings. I have several FOV 1:32 Armor pieces as well. I also collect 1:72 Corgi and Matchbox aircraft and I have a few Yat-Ming 1:48 scale planes as well.

In the 1:18th scale, I collect 21st WWII, Viet Nam, and Modern Aircraft, Helicopters, Armor, and Figures. I also collect BBI Aircraft and figures. Then there was the old GI Joe and a smattering of Star Wars long before XD ever graced the shelves!

Also got Corgi Aircraft 1/72 and 1/32 scale and some helipcopters 1/48 Vietnam series. Some Dragon planes too. :D

My personal passion is for the US Army in WW2, in multiple scales. Not much use for the Nazi crud, except to show GI's passing a KO'd Panther or something.

1/32nd 21C and FoV are mixed in with 1/32 models from Monogram, Airfix, etc. Figures are from 21C, Marx, Airfix, etc.as well as a few metal minaitures. For the previous listed stuff I modify, paint or repaint as I feel necessary. I also collect US stuff from King and Country and Britains. Looking forward to seeing the GI figures from Old Northwest Trading Co and (hopefully) the new plastic GI's coming from Toy Soldiers of San Diego.

I have one display of 1:18 21C with an M4 (rebuilt/detailed) and another with an M3 halftrack, jeep, US infantry and paratroopers. Looking forward to adding the BBi M4A3 105How.

I also collect (and often start) models of US stuff in 1/35th scale, but don't finish many. I have recently gotten more interested in 1/72nd Shermans, etc. Lots of cool little US stuff in that scale.

I also am big into research, so my book collection eats deep into my wallet.

Lastly, I usually avoid the airplanes, but I have a couple small P51's in one corner of my hobby room.

Great to hear what interest people and the many scales/brands on the marketplace. I started becoming interested in WWI, WWII, Korea and Vietnam after college. Funny how that happens, I study more history now than I ever did in highschool or college (actually failed history in highschool). Ahem, yes, not one of my prouder moments...

I especially enjoy collecting armor and studying armor tactics. I consider myself a very casual collector compared to many on this board.

I have 2 Gas-o-line pieces, 6 32X cold steel pieces, 16 FOV 1/32, 18 1/72 Dragon Armor. Because my collection is growing so quickly, everything I have was collected within the last year, so with FOV coming out with 1/72 armor and planes I have switched and collect 1/72 exclusively. I also have 1 Aeroart 1/72 Mustang, 2 1/72 Dragon Warbirds and 3 Corgi 1/144 WW II bombers. I went with the 1/144 scale for the bombers because 1/72 would take up too much room. With the great detail available now in 1/72 scale and 1/144, I'm not the least bit hesitant to collect it.
Happy collecting!!!

I collect 1:32 armour (21c and FOVs) and figures (21c, Conte, Airfix, Matchbox, Revell) - most of them German. Consider collecting 1:72 too, attracted but the recent Dragon releases. I am also into history and military research.

1/32

I used to be a fan of the 1:18 scale XD stuff. The lack of armor and especially pertaining to my field (russian front) discouraged me after a while so i made the jump to 1:32 stuff. Very excited about the appearance of russian fov.

I have been a life-time collector of HO/00, 1/72, 1/32 scale soft plastic military figs, vehicles & playsets (Airfix, Marx, ESCI, Revell G., Matchbox, Atlantic, HaT, ROCO, etc.).

But now, diecast, diecast & more diecast. Also, 1/18 and some 1/6 (no room in this scale).

I've been collecting just Shermans as of late. Currently working on the last 2 modles to complete my 1/50 Corgi Sherman set (14 total) & also up to date on the Corgi showcase 1/87 as well (8 total).

Been looking at the 1/32 stuff & 1/72, but just too much stuff & not a lot of room. Most of my disblay shelves are taken up by Danbury Mint songbird statues (25 & counting!!)

I collect almost all military miniatures:
Minchamps armor
Dragon AC/armor
21st XD, cold steel armor/AC
Dragon 1/6 figures
Dragon 1/35 CanDo figures

I also build kits, mostly waterline warships as warships(other than Tamiya Masterpiece collection) have not yet become available in prefinished.

What I collect

Post by Winky » Tue Nov 16, 2004 8:24 pm

Most of my stuff is 1/32nd, altho I do have numbers of 1/35th scale armor pieces that aren't available in 1/32nd. All of my troops are 1/32nd and are comprised by many different brands (Barzso, Conte, Marx, Airfix, CTS, AIP, and anything else I happen to like!). I'm a little bit crazy about this hobby, so if somebody does an interesting playset in an era I don't have, I'll probably want it. My wife says can't we limit ourselves to a specific historical era. I say no, we can't. She askes do we need this. I say yes we do. If Conte does Romans, as he says he's about to, I'll be a happy guy. If LOTR does new series of guys or a new catapult, I'm a happy guy. If AIP does Afgans, as they just have, or 21st or FOV finally does PTO, you got it, I'm a happy guy. This kind of attitude tends to make dealers like George happy too. It's good for everybody to be happy. I'm not sure my wife is, actually, but she's very good about accomodating my craziness.

Mostly planes in 1/100 (Ertl Force One-customizing) some 1/100 Armour, Matchbox 1/72, FOV 1/72, some Corgi 1/72 Die Cast Planes. 21st 1/32, Corgi 1/32, and 21st and BBi 1:18 Planes. I seek smaller scale (1/100, 1/72) non US planes.

I am forcing myself to stick to just 1/32 and 1/72.

21st 32x and FOV vehicles mixed with the very rare 1/32 models that are out there (I currently have 50+ tanks so my collection is now some size).

1/32 Figures for me its Conte with a few from other manufacturers mainly matchbox and airfix basically only true 54mm.

1/72 Dragon armour for me is a winner but I am getting a little disilusioned with the all german rare heavy armour, the matchbox/CDC stuff is also great.

In this scale I have also taken up modelling and my skills are improving steadily and my armies very rapidly.

all of the above is ww2 only.

However when I find the right line or scale I will collect Napoleonics conte making them would probably push me that way.

What Scale?

Post by GroundPounder » Sun Nov 21, 2004 4:54 pm

For the most part, I am collecting 28mm figures and 1/50 scale Corgi Vehicles to go with them. Looks like a Sherman and a M3 Halftrack for Christmas if Santa comes though! Have several of the jeeps and Kubles Corgi has put out.

What do you collect

Post by Gambit » Sun Nov 21, 2004 7:34 pm

I collect some of the 1:50 Corgi and 1:72 Dragon. My interest in Dragon has dropped off with all these special versions (travel lock up or down, who cares!) and limited editions from their Hong Kong operation.

Does anyone know of a reliable U.S. internet site where you can buy true scale accesories (machine guns, aerials, etc) for the 1:72 scale?

i collect anything and everything 1/18. I'm basically trying to recreate the universe in 1/18th scale. Then i can be the supreme being of it.

My first love is aircraft (well actually my first love was dinosaurs when i was but a wee tot) but airplanes are my deepest love. But i collect (if i can) all eras military, some star wars, lotr, and other sci fi/fantasy stuff, animal figures, cars and motorcycles, dinosaurs, sports figures and celebs and any other oddball stuff i happen to come across that is 1/18. I even have a 1/18 scale Mars Sojourner rover i found a few years ago (made by Galoob i think).

I collect 21st Century 1:18 scale armor and planes, and 1/32 scale 21st and FOV armor. I have a decent 1/43 scale Solido collection that became dormant when nicer stuff came on the market (anyone interested in Solido?)
