Easy Model going 1:48th?

Post by Epap » Fri Apr 12, 2013 5:52 am

There is a report out of the UK that Easy Model is about to launch a new series of 1:48th scale replicas----the first four are the P-51, P-47, P-40 and Huey-----with four or five schemes per plane. Naturally, there is no inkling of this on the Easy Model ( MRC ) website, but that's par for the course with manufacturers. As usual, most of the offerings will probably be "usual subjects", based on Hobby Boss kits, but this looks, to me, like an interesting development----if true. It might also be a small scale test----time will tell.

Well this is true, I need to build up my 1/48 fleet, and easy model replicas would be perfect, as I already have a few 1/72nd mrc models...

The first pictures of two 1:48th scale P-51Ds have materialized on the Easy Model section of the MRC website. Both were "buried" among the 1:72nd scale items, with no attempt to highlight them. From what I can see, there will be no extra stenciling nor cockpit detail, despite the larger scale. Here's a picture of the first P-51D:Image

That would be great since all I can afford is Easy Model. I would imagine the prices will be reasonable and even more so if sold at Hobby Lobby with their 30% off coupons.

Would have been nice to see a Hellcat, Spitfire or even an upscale of their 1:72 Typhoon. Not interested in either of those Mustang schemes and I don't really need any more P-51's, P-40's or P-47's of any scale. I might be interested in a Huey though.

Well, assuming you can remove the canopy without damaging the model too much, Hobbymaster makes affordable 1:48 scale WWII pilot figures in sitting positions. These were designed to go in some of their earlier 1:48 models that did not include pilot figures. They have a "US" pilot in tan PTO uniform and an "RAF" pilot in brown ETO uniform.

I wish those had been available 10-15 years ago when I was really into building models - 1:48 scale was my favorite scale to build back then, and I could have used dozens of those figures for pilots and crew. I did get a few to go in my handful of 21c 1:48 planes, though.
